American Eskimo vs Japanese Spitz
American Eskimo and Japanese Spitz are extremely similar looking, playful, and lovable dog breeds. They both have a common ancestor, and it is very difficult to identify a Japanese Spitz from an American Eskimo unless the differentiating characters are known between them. This article aims to discuss those slight differences about them including originated countries, colour variations, and size differences.
It is a small to medium breed originated in Japan. Japanese Spitz look much similar to the famous Pomeranians, but they are always larger than them. Japanese Spitz is companion and pet dog breed. Their average height is about 33cm at withers and the weight ranges between five and ten kilograms. They have a square shaped body with a deep-chest. Additionally, they have a snow-white very thick puffy double coat, which is not sticky and it requires only a little maintenance. However, there is short fur on the ears, around the muzzle, and on fore and hind limbs. They have a pointed muzzle and the tip is black in colour. Their ears are triangular shaped and lie always erected. The tail of Japanese Spitz is long and covered by long fur. They are healthy dogs and have very few genetic problems. This dog breed is extremely loyal to the owner family and very good watchdogs as well. Japanese Spitz could live up to 16 years, which is a long time compared to many other dog breeds.
American Eskimo Dogs
American Eskimos originated in Germany, and they are a member of the Spitz family. Dog breeders originally bred American Eskimo dogs to guard people, as they are territorial by nature. They are quite vocal and bark at any stranger. They make an excellent watch dog breed and are very loyal to the owner family. This is one of the breeds that can live a long life among very few dog breeds that exceeds fifteen years. American Eskimos come in three different sizes known as Toy, Miniature, and Standard. The largest is close to the Samoyed size and the smallest is like a small toy. However, they become overweight very quickly and need regular exercises daily. The coat colour of American Eskimo dog is white with jet black colour nose, eye rings, and mouth. However, sometimes the coat could be cream coloured in this breed. They are intelligent and used for the circuses and have won some awards for their performances.
What is the difference between Japanese Spitz and American Eskimo?
· Both these dog breeds belong to Spitz group and the ancestors are the same, but their countries of origin are different; Japanese Spitz from Japan and American Eskimos from Germany.
· American Eskimo comes in three defined sizes, whereas Japanese Spitz comes in one standard size that varies according to the country or the respective managed kennel clubs.
· They both come in white colour coats, but sometimes the American Eskimos are available in cream colour.
· They both are homebound animals, but Japanese Spitz has a higher demand as a pet and companion animal.
