Calculus vs Geometry
Calculus and geometry both are branches of mathematics. They are one of the oldest fields of mathematical sciences and are being used in science from ancient times. Both are the prime pillars of modern mathematics. There is no inter-relation between the two of them. Though one aspect of one of these may be used in the other. They find wide range of applications in our daily life.
Calculus basically is the study of change. It involves concepts such as limits, continuity, functions, differentiation, integration, etc. It is sub-divided into differential calculus and integral calculus. Normally, the method to learn calculus is by studying and manipulating very small changes in infinitesimal small quantities. By using calculus, one may also get a better knowledge of motion, time and space. It also provides solutions to several problems like division of a quantity or a number by zero. For engineering purposes, calculus can also be used with other branches of mathematics to solve particular problems. One can find applications of calculus in physics, computer science, statistics, economics, etc.
Geometry is a branch of mathematics which deals with the study of shapes, sizes, properties of space and relative positioning of figures. The visible representation of figures and shapes in geometry makes the problem more understandable. The study of geometry involves finding area and volume of figures like triangle, cylinder, cone and other complex figures in space. Geometry is sub categorized into plane geometry and solid geometry. It may further be classified as Euclidian geometry, differential geometry, topological geometry and algebraic geometry. While solving problems, shapes are resolved in one, two or three dimensions and then studied. It finds extensive applications in the field of physics, astronomy, engineering, etc. One of the striking features of geometry is that calculations are not done using numbers, rather equations are solved to give the result in numbers.
