Chroma Key vs Green Screen
Chroma key and green screen are terms related to video production and are commonly used in weather forecasts. Normally, what we see at home is that the forecaster is standing in front of a map, but in reality, the forecaster is just standing on a background which is usually either green or blue in color.
Chroma key is what most define as a technique used by video editors. This technique makes it possible for the editors remove certain colors that they felt not necessary on the picture. This technique is also known as CSO or color separation overlay. One can actually use any color when doing chroma key, but the most commonly used color is either blue or green.
Green screen on the other hand is often used as the basis of most effects, from Hollywood movies to weather forecast. The entire idea for this is pretty simple. When shooting a video in a single colored background (although blue and green are most commonly used) one can make the background color be seen as transparent with a tool, thus making it easier to superimpose things into a shot.
