Crossover vs SUV
Do you own a car and always felt an attraction towards SUV’s? It is only natural to have an attraction for these large automobiles. They not only seem to have more power, they also are bigger (read spacious) and have the kind of ruggedness that is what makes them capable to glide effortlessly on rough terrains. Normal passenger cars are for city driving and are not considered suitable for off road driving. To lure such people while still providing them with most of the features of passenger cars, car manufacturers coined a new term crossover. A crossover can be considered as a bridge between a passenger car and a SUV. However, there are more differences between a SUV and a crossover that will be highlighted in this article.
So, retaining the car platform the vehicle is built, combining the features of a SUV with a passenger car with the result that one gets the feeling of driving a SUV, though it does not have the same load bearing capacity nor the capability of a true SUV. A crossover has the same high ground clearance and tall interiors that are characteristics of a SUV. Crossover may also have four wheel drive which is an added attraction for those who love this feature in SUV’s. Despite all their makeover, crossovers do not have the off road capabilities of SUV’s.
Critics prefer to call crossovers as station wagons or hatchbacks that look like SUV’s but still ride like a car. Normally, a crossover is bigger than a passenger car but smaller than a SUV. There are SUV’s that have been built on car platforms, but these are platforms of large cars resulting in SUV’s larger than crossovers.
Crossovers have filled the vacuum for people who have a deep desire for SUV but like the fuel economy of passenger cars. With high ground clearance, crossovers are ideal for countryside and stubborn terrains. They are also popular because of their higher storage capacity.
