Direct and indirect discrimination is to make a distinction against an individual or group in a less favorable way. This can happen in various situations and instances like work, school, religion, race or belief. This treatment may be unlawful when such discrimination violates the law.
Direct discrimination happens when an individual is treated unfavorably because of one’s personal attribute like sex, race, age, disability or parental status. Generally, this is very straightforward and can affect the person being discriminated greatly. Example, an individual is rejected for a certain position at work because of one’s gender. The common victims of direct discrimination are individuals possessing a greatly noticeable difference among a group. On the other hand, victims for indirect discrimination are concerned with a cluster or group, wherein their rights have been violated. Direct discrimination can occur to the place where you personally go to while indirect discrimination happens in public places like airports, restaurants or shopping malls. Direct discrimination is hard to prove compared to indirect discrimination, which can sometimes lead to ordering legal actions.
