Samsung Galaxy Note is an Android smart phone by Samsung. The device was officially announced on September 2011, and the official release is expected soon. The device reportedly managed to steal the show at the IFA 2011.

The Samsung Galaxy Note stands tall at 5.78”. The device is larger than a normal smart phone and smaller than other 7” and 10” tablets. The device is only 0.38” thick. Samsung Galaxy Note weighs 178 g. One of the most appealing features of the device, maybe well fitting screen size. Samsung Galaxy Note boasts a 5.3” Super HD AMOLED capacitive touch screen with WXGA (800 x 1280 pixels) resolution. The display is made scratch proof and strong by Gorilla glass and supports multi touch. In terms of sensors in the device, accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate, proximity sensor for auto turn-off, barometer sensor, and gyroscope sensor are available. Samsung Galaxy Note stands out from other members of the Samsung Galaxy family with the inclusion of a Stylus. The stylus utilizes the digital S pen technology and provides an accurate hand writing experience on Samsung Galaxy Note.

Samsung Galaxy Note runs on a Dual-core 1.4GHz (ARM Cortex-A9) processor coupled with a Mali-400MP GPU. This configuration enables powerful graphics manipulation. The device is complete with 1 GB RAM and 16 GB internal storage. The storage capacity can be extended up to 32 GB using a micro SD card. A micro SD card worth 2 GB is available with the device. The device supports 4G LTE, HSPA+21Mbps, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. Micro USB support and USB-on-the go support are also available with Samsung Galaxy Note.

In terms of music, Samsung Galaxy Note has stereo FM radio with RDS allowing users to listen to their favorite music stations on the go. A 3.5 mm audio jack is also available. An MP3/MP4 player and a built in speaker are also on board. Users will be able record quality audio and video with good quality sound with the active noise cancellation with dedicated microphone. The device is also complete with a HDMI out.

Samsung Galaxy Note comes with an 8 mega pixel rear facing camera with auto focus and LED flash. Features such as Geo-tagging, touch focus, and face detection are also available to support the superior hardware. A front facing 2 mega pixel camera is also available with this high end smart phone. The rear facing camera is capable of recording video at 1080p. Samsung Galaxy Note comes with outstanding image editing and video editing applications by Samsung.

Samsung Galaxy Note runs on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). Applications for Samsung Galaxy Note can be downloaded from Android market. The device has a good collection of custom applications pre loaded in the device. As mentioned before, video editing and photo editing applications will be a hit among users. NFC connectivity and NFC support are available optionally. NFC capability will enable the device to be used as a mode for electronic payments via E wallet applications. The document editor on board will allows serious work using this powerful device. Productivity applications such as organizer is also available. Other useful applications and features include YouTube client, Email, Push Email, Voice commands, predictive text input, Samsung ChatOn and Flash support.

While the available specifications are promising, neither the hardware nor software is finalized as yet.

HTC Sensation XE

HTC Sensation XE is one of the latest Android smart phones announced by HTC. The device is officially announced in September 2011. The device is expected to be released to the market by 1st October 2011. This is the latest version of HTC Sensation and similar to its predecessor HTC Sensation XE is also designed as an entertainment phone and the device lives up to its expectations. HTC Sensation XE comes with custom made “Beats” headset. Therefore the device is also known as HTC Sensation XE with beats audio.

HTC Sensation XE is 4.96” tall, 2.57” wide and 0.44” thick. The dimensions of the phone remain similar to its predecessor and there for the portability and slim feel of the device remains intact. The device comes with a black and red designed which was commonly available in many other entertainment phones. With battery the device weighs 151g. HTC Sensation XE has a 4.3” Super LCD, capacitive touch screen with 16 M colours. The screen resolution is 540 x 960. The resolution of the display and the quality remains similar to the previous version of the phone released few months back. The device also has Accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate, Proximity sensor for auto turn-off and a Gyro sensor. The user interface on HTC Sensation is customised with HTC Sense.

HTC Sensation XE has a 1.5 GHz dual core snap dragon processor with Adreno 220 GPU for hardware accelerated graphics. Since HTC Sensation XE is meant to manipulate a reasonable amount of multimedia, a good hardware configuration is necessary to achieve the full potential of the device. The device comes with 4 GB internal storage and 768 MB RAM. The storage is a limitation in this phone; only 1GB is available for user data. The storage cannot  be extended externally, as it does not have SD card slot. In terms of connectivity, the device supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G connectivity as well as micro-USB.

On HTC Sensation series, HTC capitalized heavily on the cameras. The emphasis remains similar in HTC Sensation XE. HTC Sensation XE has an 8 mega pixel rear facing camera with dual LED flash and auto-focus. The camera also comes with useful features such as geo-tagging, touch focus, image stabilization and face detection. Instant capture is another unique feature in the rear facing camera. The camera is also capable of HD video recording at 1080P with stereo sound recording. The front facing camera is a fixed focus VGA camera quite sufficient for video calling.

HTC Sensation XE is a unique multimedia phone. The device comes with Beats audio and custom made Beats headsets and specially customized music application to take the full advantage of the cool headset. The FM radio support is also available on the device. HTC Sensation XE supports audio playback for formats such as .aac, .amr, .ogg, .m4a, .mid, .mp3, .wav and .wma. The audio recording format available is .amr. IN terms of video playback formats, .3gp, .3g2, .mp4, .wmv (Windows Media Video 9), .avi (MP4 ASP and MP3) and .xvid (MP4 ASP and MP3) are available while video recording is available on .3gp. With the high end hardware configurations and the 4.3” screen HTC Sensation XE will be very user friendly for gaming as well.

HTC Sensation XE is powered by Android 2.3.4 (Gingerbread); however the user interface will be customized using the HTC Sense platform. The active lock screen and visuals for weather are available on HTC Sensation XE. Since HTC Sensation XE is an Android phone applications can be downloaded from Android market and many other 3rd party stores. Facebook and Twitter applications highly customized for HTC sense is available for HTC Sensation XE. Photos and videos can be directly uploaded to Flickr, Twitter, Facebook or YouTube from HTC Sensation XE. The browsing experience on HTC Sensation is also supreme with multi window browsing. Text and image are rendered with quality even after zoom and video playback on browser is also smooth. The browser comes with support for flash.

HTC Sensation XE comes with a 1730 mAh re-chargeable battery. As HTC Sensation XE is intended for heavy multimedia manipulation, battery life is vital. The device reportedly stands more than 7 hours of continuous talk time with 3G on.
