Ice cream and frozen yogurt have been greatly enjoyed for generations. Commercially they are one of the favorite desserts all over the world. One of the best products that comes from milk, they are quite different from each other.

Ice Cream

Historically, ice cream has been created since the 6th century B.C. Tracing back its root that far, it’s no mere feat how the modern ice cream has now evolved. Made from dairy products and sugar, ice cream gained popularity for its creaminess and richness. Due to its ingredients being 20% milk fat, it is also considered as a high calorie snack.

Frozen yogurt

Frozen yogurt gained its commercial success in 1980, after modifications of the original recipe were made. Due to its low calorie content consisting of only 5% milk fat, it is considered as the healthier alternative. Flavored frozen yogurts are very popular both for its benefits and taste.

Difference between Ice Cream and Frozen Yogurt

What sets them both apart is the fact that frozen yogurt has live microorganisms which promotes good health. Commonly known as probiotics, these cultures are added to ferment milk and remain in the product. During fermentation lactic acid is released, which thickens the milk proteins and guard the product against non beneficial bacteria. It is believed that these live bacteria aids in digestion and prevents certain intestinal diseases. In the advent of health consciousness, a lot of consumers prefer to have an invigorating dessert. But the popularity of ice cream is hard to challenge, what with numerous flavors available that are just about every dessert lover’s dream not to mention the luxurious taste that ice cream offers.

Sweets are eaten for several reasons, be it for the perfect dessert or just a simple craving. Munching something healthy is highly desirable. It’s nice to eat something without being guilty at the end of the day. But if you are looking for a stress reliever, might as well go for that something that won’t make you regret the extra calories.
