Features of Indian Ringneck
It is a small parrot classified as parakeet by scientists. It is also known as Rose-ringed parakeet because of the typical rose colored ring in its neck. It has a red colored hooked beak, long tail and a small size in comparison to other parrots found in the world. It is about 16 inches in size when grown up and has a stealthy appearance that makes it distinct. When you look at the eyes of this bird, you would feel as if it is angry or trying to steal something which is what makes this bird special.
Indian redneck is always green in color with some undertones of blues. However, they have yellow underlying feathers in their wings and tails. Both males and females look same and the only distinguishing feature is the ring around the neck of the males. This ring is black in color with shades of turquoise, pink and blue. Both males and females have large feathers and have long, almost 7 inch tails. Because of their green color, these parrots are hard to spot when perched atop trees. Indian Ringneck is native to India and some parts of Africa. They are bad news for farmers as they damage standing crops.
These parrots are intelligent and make great pets. They can speak words from human languages with amazing clarity. They are great companions and love to show off what they have learnt to their masters.
Features of Alexandrine compared with Indian Redneck
This is a parakeet that is named after Alexander the Great who took this parrot from Punjab into many European and Mediterranean countries. This species is also called eupatria in Latin which means of noble ancestry. This parrot is larger in size than Indian Ringneck measuring around 23 inches in size with a large wingspan of 8 inches. Though it is mainly green in color like Indian Redneck there is a blue grey sheen on cheeks and nape, and it is differentiated with a characteristic yellow green abdomen which is absent in Indian Redneck. The color of tail feathers is also different from Indian Redneck. There is a bold maroon patch on the body of all Alexandrine parrots which differentiates them from Indian Redneck. This colored patch is called shoulder patch. Males have a black ring in necks while females do not have a ring.
Alexandrine is a very good pet and is very energetic, engaging in lots of activities. It accepts many types of foods whereas Indian Redneck eats limited fruits and foods. Alexandrine requires a larger cage than Indian Redneck as it is not only bigger; it likes to engage in a lot more activities than Indian Redneck. Alexandrine prove to be much better talkers than Indian Redneck, and have a longer lifespan also.
