Maceration vs Percolation
What is maceration? Maceration is the process of soaking or steeping any thing to make it softer. It is used in dehydration of foods, in flavoring of ingredients as well as making wine. Maceration is performed in a number of processes such as biological and chemical processes. Maceration is also done in order to preserve food which is sold in its packed form. All the types of maceration, whether they are chemical or biological, involve the softening of some substance. Maceration is done in fruits which are crushed and sprinkled with other ingredients such as sugar, lemon juice and spices. There are a number of fruit dishes which are made as a result of maceration of food. Meat products are also macerated sometimes in a mixture of liquids for the purpose of marinating before they are cooked. Such meat becomes better and rich in taste with saturated flavor which penetrates completely in meat. A number of vegetables are macerated before they are grilled to make their taste better and much enjoyable. The process of maceration is carried out by using alcohol mostly as it helps in softening of foods. Macerated foods allow them to have a separate look making them much enjoyable and tasty on pairing them with desserts. Maceration is a process which needs to be controlled. Maceration of a substance for a longer time results in breaking down of food and makes it mushy. The process of maceration also helps in freeing the food from coming in contact with bacteria.
What is percolation? Percolation is a process of optimizing the conditions of microorganisms to take benefit from the ability of these organisms to avoid degradation of different pollutants. Percolation involves construction which controls the influence of the microorganisms in numerous treatment processes in different ways. Such percolation allows in the increasing degradation rate which allows in reduction of the time required for treatment and the costs that are done for operation on such pieces of land. Percolation is carried out on basins where polluted material is filled. 750 tons of soil can be filled in these basins; the bioreactor for percolation provides process water which is applied to surface of the soil. The infiltrated water heaps through the soil which is collected by the drainage system of bioreactor. The water then defines air volume which passes through the material which has been treated.
Difference between Maceration and Percolation
Maceration is a process which is done in order to provide certain liquid or chemical to any substance. The key target of the process of maceration is to make the substance, on which liquid is applied, softer than before. Percolation, on the other hand, is the method of filtration in which soil or any other substance is passed through some substance to take some pollutant or color out of that substance. Percolation makes use of gravity and biological techniques which are allowed to make some substance free of pollution. The major difference is the reaction which these processes perform. Maceration is a process for softening of certain substance while Percolation is a process which is used to disinfect some substance with the usage of microorganisms unlike usage of a fluid in Maceration.
