Samsung Galaxy S 4G vs iPhone 4 – Full Specs Compared

Samsung Galaxy S 4G is the first 4G phone from the Galaxy family. Also it is the first Galaxy to have a front facing camera. It’s a welcome inclusion to the galaxy device. There are many other changes in specs too, however when you look at exterior of Galaxy S 4G, it has adopted the same classic Galaxy design. It sports a 4″ super AMOLED display, 1GHz processor, 5MP camera, swype technology for text input and runs Android 2.2 (Froyo) with TouchWiz 3.0. T-Mobile is the US carrier for Galaxy S 4G. While iPhone 4 with a brilliant iOS and an amazing display is still a benchmark for smartphones. The very fact that new smartphones are being compared with Apple iPhone 4 that was launched in the middle of 2010 speaks volumes of the abilities of this amazing smartphone by Apple. It’s an international device, it’s available almost every where across the globe. Galaxy S 4G is available with US T-Mobile for $200 with new 2 year contract. iPhone 4 is available for $200 (16GB model) and $300 (32GB model) with new 2 year contract. Different packages are available globally for iPhone 4.

Samsung Galaxy S 4G (Model SGH-T959)

Samsung Galaxy S 4G runs Android 2.2 and support HSPA+ network. At HSPA+ speed backed by 1 GHz Hummingbird processor and Android 2.2 multitasking and browsing are fast and smooth and the call quality also good. It can be used as a mobile hotspot to connect up to 5 devices at HSPA+ speed. Galaxy S 4G boast about its 4″ super AMOLED screen with 800 x 480 resolution, which is brighter with vivid colors, light responsive and reduced glare with a wider viewing angle. The Super AMOLED display is a unique feature of Galaxy S series. The other features include 5.0 megapixel auto focus camera, 3D sound, 720p HD video recording and play, 16GB internal memory expandable up to 32GBrd processor and DLNA certified. Galaxy S 4G is said to consume 20% less power than its previous models. Samsung claims Galaxy S 4G as an eco friendly device, it is said to be the first mobile phone that is 100% biodegradable.

The phone has a front facing camera for video calling and using the preinstalled Qik application users can make video calls via Wi-Fi or T-Mobile network. However for web based applications such as qik and mobile hotspot users need to buy a broadband package from T-Mobile.

As an added attraction, T-Mobile has preloaded many applications and entertainment packages to both the devices. Some of them are Faves Gallery, Media Hub – direct access to MobiTV, Double Twist (you can sync to iTunes over Wi-Fi), Slacker Radio and the action movie Inception. Amazon Kindle, YouTube and Facebook are integrated with Android. In addtion it has access to Android Market.

Apple iPhone 4

The iPhone 4 is one of the slimmest smartphone (Galaxy S II has beaten iPhone’s record) with 3.5 inches LED backlit Retina display that has a higher resolution of 960×640 pixels. The display is the best so far and produce very sharp and clear images. The touchscreen is highly sensitive and scratch resistant. The device is powered by 1GHz A4 processor and iOS 4.2.1 (upgradeable to 4.3.1 via iTunes). The browser is Safari, which is used in all Apple devices. The good thing with Apple devices is that Apple uniformly use the operating system in all iDevices with few exceptions, therefore sharing applications among iDevices is possible. Web browsing on Safari is a pleasant experience and the user has the liberty to download thousands of apps from Apple’s app store.

The other features include 512 MB eDRAM, internal memory options of 16 or 32 GB and dual camera, 5 megapixel 5x digital zoom rear camera with LED flash and 0.3 megapixel camera for video calling. For connectivity, there is Bluetooth v2.1+EDR and the phone has Wi-Fi 802.1b/g/n at 2.4 GHz.

The smartphone is available in black and white colors. Its dimension is 15.2 x 48.6 x 9.3 mm and weighs just 137g.

It has two models, the GSM model commonly known as iPhone 4 and the CDMA model known as CDMA iPhone 4 or Verizon iPhone 4. The additional feature in the CDMA iPhone 4 is the mobile hotspot capability, where you can connect up to 5 Wi-Fi enabled devices. This feature is now available in GSM model too with the upgrade to iOS 4.3.1. iPhone 4 CDMA model is available with Verizon, US.

iPhone 4 is available for $200 (16 GB) and $ 300 (32 GB) on new 2 year contract. And a data plan is also required for web based applications. The data plan starts at $20 monthly access (2GB allowance).
