Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc vs Samsung Galaxy S – Full Specs Compared
The race to make the thinnest, the smallest, and the one packed with best and latest features is on. What every electronic company is trying is to come up trumps against iPhone 4, which is undoubtedly the most popular smartphone around the globe. Samsung has already created waves with its Galaxy S, and now it is the turn of Sony Ericsson to wake up from its slumber and stun the world with a wafer thin smartphone called Xperia Arc. The two smartphones have many similarities but there are also differences that this article will highlight so as to enable buyers to make a better, informed decision.
Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc
Sony has finally given up on its fondness for human curve that reflected in its earlier phones. Xperia can make a claim to being one of the slimmest smartphone in the world today standing at just 8.7 mm in the middle with a slight curve still being there. It has large display of 4.2” and an excellent camera of 8.1MP with an innovative sensor. It is coupled with the legendary Sony Bravia Engine TV technology and also brings Sony’s innovative Cyber Shot technology for the users.
The display has a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels and utilizes LED backlit TFT LCD screen to make it bright, sharp and vivid. Bravia Engine makes images with optimal color, contrast and sharpness with automatic noise reduction.
This amazing smartphone runs on Google’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread and has a powerful 1GHz Qualcomm snapdragon processor. It has Adreno 205 for excellent graphics processing and boasts of 512MB RAM. The phone has an 8 MP camera capable of capturing HD videos and is also HDMI capable that allows the user to watch these videos instantly on TV. For connectivity, Xperia offers Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, DLNA, 3G, HSDPA and HSUPA along with Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP. It also has micro USB 2.0 ports to allow for fast and easy sharing of audio and video files with friends.
The only disappointing point of Xperia Arc is its internal memory which is only 320 MB. However, this is expandable up to 32 GB using micro SD cards. The phone utilizes Lithium Ion 1500 mAH battery that gives a standby time of 400 hours and an excellent 7 hours of talk time.
Samsung Galaxy S
Not to be left behind in the race for the best smartphone, Samsung came up with its Android based smartphone called Galaxy S. It has a huge 4” display that is super AMOLED, and boasts of a powerful 1GHz processor and an impressive 5 MP camera capable of recording HD videos in 720p. It runs on Android 2.1 / 2.2 allowing user to download thousands of apps from Android’s app store.
The monoblock touch screen phone measures 122 x 64.2 x 9.9mm and weighs just 119 gm that is tremendous to say the least. With a 4 inch screen, it has perfect dimensions to remain compact and handy. It is light as there is no metal in the body and it is all plastic. The only disappointing factor with its design is that it is a fingerprint magnet and within 5 minutes of use, its screen is full of finger marks.
The super AMOLED display at 480 x 800 pixels is very bright and displays 16 million colors. Even in very bright lighting, the contrast of the phone will mesmerize you, the display is second to none. The phone has all the standard features of smartphones with proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, accelerometer and gyrometer. Touchscreen is highly sensitive and does not make use of stylus as it is capacitive.
For connectivity, the phone is Wi-Fi, GPRS, EDGE, 3G, HSPDA, micro USB and Bluetooth 3.0. Latest version of Bluetooth allows for faster sharing and transfer of files. The phone is available in two versions with 8GB and 16 GB of internal memory that can be expanded using micro SD cards. The smartphone has 512 MB RAM and 2 GB ROM.
For those fond of clicking, the phone has a 5 MP camera with auto focus, smile/face detection, and geo tagging. However, there is no flash which is disappointing, and there is no question of shooting in dark.
