Swedish Massage vs Deep Tissue Massage
Swedish massage and Deep Tissue massage are two of the most loved massage nowadays. Women would always find their way to spas and massage parlors to get a good hour or two of pure pampering. Most women do not really realize that both massages have different functions and purposes.
Swedish Massage
Swedish massage was developed by a Swedish physiologist in the early 1800’s. This form of massage is done with long circular strokes. The Swedish massage is primarily used to induce relaxation for stressed and overly active muscles. The purpose of the Swedish massage aside from relaxation is to enhance the circulation of blood all over your body and get your nervous system up and running.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage is used to relieve the stressed muscles especially in the neck, arms, legs and thigh. This type of massage is aimed at the tissues that normal massages could not reach; these muscles are usually stressed. A hard pressure needs to be done in order to get results with deep tissue massage. A deeper pressure should be expected with this massage and any pain should be reported.
Difference between Swedish massage and Deep tissue massage
Swedish massage promotes relaxation; deep tissue massage is used to unknot the deeper stressed muscles. Swedish massage is done by slow, even pressure and circular movements to enhance the circulatory system. Deep tissue massage, on the other hand, is more focused on specific parts of the body which hurts really bad. Swedish massage is intended for those who have very sensitive skins while deep tissue massages are for those who sit or stand for the entire day. Swedish massages have moderate pressure while deep tissue massage involves a deeper and at times painful pressure.
Now that you know the difference between the two, whenever you decide to treat yourself with a massage, you will already know which of the two you would choose depending on what your body needs.
