White cornmeal and yellow cornmeal are two types flour used for making breads and pastries. Different types of flour are commonly used to prepare breads all over the country. It comes from a variety of corn that is white in color which is why this flour is white in color. It has less of vitamin B in it and also does not taste sweet which is a characteristic of yellow cornmeal. It is mainly grown in southern states and that is why this flour mostly sells in southern states.
As the name implies, this cornmeal comes from yellow corn which is more popular and grown all over the country. As it is rich in vitamin B and also sweet, it is preferred by people for making breads and pastries. Breads made using yellow cornmeal also seem to have more flavor and stronger in taste.
Difference between White Cornmeal and Yellow Cornmeal
Both yellow and white cornmeal are used interchangeably as nearly all recipes can make use of either of them, there are certain differences between them that are felt by people who have tasted both.
Apart from the color, which is yellow and whiter respectively because of the color of the kernel that produce them, yellow cornmeal has more of vitamins A and B, which makes people prefer it for use at home. Yellow cornmeal has a distinct flavor, which is missing in white cornmeal. Yellow cornmeal is also strong in taste.
