Android vs iPhone
If you have used up all mobiles at the lower end of the spectrum and want to show the world that you have finally arrived, you need to flaunt a high end smartphone. OK, a smartphone is basically a device to make and receive voice calls, but this is one feature that reminds one of a smartphone being a mobile. There are features that would make you believe its is more of a computing device, a pocket computer really, with a digital camera and Wi-Fi connectivity, and many abilities and capabilities that are really not expected in a mobile. Apple’s iPhone is one smartphone that has changed the rules of the game in the sense that it is taking on the might of all other smartphones that are Android OS based.
Not fair, you might be tempted to say, but the sale figures of Apple’s iPhone, which is in its fourth edition today, and its undying craze among executives and students alike has meant that iPhone has remained perched at the top position among smartphones for quite some time now. Despite iPhone being a smartphone like other Android based smartphones in the market, there are differences that help Apple maintain a lead between iPhone 4 and contenders from HTC, Samsung, Motorola, and Sony Ericsson etc.
iPhones, whether it was the first generation iPhone or the latest iPhone 4, they all work on Apple’s own operating system called iOS. On the other hand, a vast majority of smartphones from other giant mobile makers are based upon Android, which is Google’s operating system. Like Apple’s OS, Android has been developing all the time and today the latest mobile OS from Google is Gingerbread, also called Android 2.3. Whereas, OS in iPhones is closed, Android is an open source operating system and can be used by any mobile manufacturer as its platform for a high end smartphone.

In brief: Difference between Android and iPhone • If you own an iPhone, you have no option to increase its internal memory if you have maxed out the internal storage. On the other hand, one can easily expand internal storage in Android based phones using micro SD cards. • You can never hope to remove and replace the battery of your iPhone and you have to send it back to the manufacturer. On the other hand, this can be easily done by the user in Android based smartphones. • Though there are many apps from Apple’s app store and iTunes, their browsing and downloading is much more difficult than Androids’ app store, where it is as easy as pushing a button and the app gets installed on your smartphone. • iPhones have limited Flash support that hinders with web surfing and doesn’t allow the users to enjoy full flash sites and flash based games and videos. There is no such problem with Android based smartphones as they have full flash support. • Another difference lies in the fact that a user can control the features of his android based smartphone through a computer which is not possible in iPhones.
