The first dual-core processor in a mobile device has been introduced by LG. The competition among smartphones based on the display is now towards processors, modern devices are coming up with high speed processors. LG has moved one step ahead and has introduced the first dual core processor to mobile devices. The LG Optimus 2x, the new release from LG boasts about its high performance dual core Tegra 2 processor.

The two phones we are comparing here, LG Optimus 2x and Samsung Galaxy S are both powered by Android and enhanced by rich technologies. Not only in the operating system on which they are running but on hardware feature also both phones have some similarities while clearly differentiating themselves with unique features.

LG Optimus 2x

This is the first dual-core Android Smartphone with 1 GHz high-performance Tegra 2 processor. This is the latest LG Optimus Smartphone to be introduced, with a dual core processor in mobile phone.

The device is powered by Android 2.2 (Froyo), with a promised upgrade to Android Gingerbread (Android 2.3) soon.

The device comes with large 4” WVGA display with its own IPS technology that was used in iPhone 4. The IPS technology was sold to Apple by LG to make the iPhone 4.

The phone has created a hype with its specification: 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 processor, a 4-inch WVGA display, 8GB memory (up to 32GB via microSD), 1,500 mAh battery, 8MP rear camera and 1.3 MP front camera, full 1080p TV-out via HDMI and running on Android 2.2 upgradeable to Gingerbread (Android 2.3).

On the application side it has unique features such as integrated ThinkFree office document editor, layer reality browser to have an instant POI view of the street and get additional information, Allshare via DLNA.

Galaxy S is a slim light weight full touch bar with the dimension of 64.2mm (Width) x 122.5mm (Height) X 9.99mm (Depth) and weight 124g.

Comparison between LG Optimus 2x and Samsung Galaxy S

Both are Android phones but LG Optimus 2x runs on the latest version 2.2 (Froyo) upgradeable to 2.3 (Gingerbread) while Samsung Galaxy S is on 2.1(Eclair)

The important difference is the processor, though both processor speed are same at 1GHz, LG has introduced dual core Tegra 2 processor in LG Optimus 2x and high performance is expected.

Both the displays are 4 inches but the technology differs, LG Optimus 2x has used its own IPS technology which is used on iPhone 4 marketed by Apple as Retina display. Super AMOLED technology is used in Galaxy S. Samsung promises with its Super AMOLED display vibrant and vivid colours and the screen to be perfectly clear even in bright sunlight.

The cameras also different LG Optimus 2x comes with 8 MP camera with LED flash and Samsung Galaxy S has 5 MP camera and it has no flash.

Samsung Galaxy S do not support RFID and NFC; detail for Optimus 2x is not clear, but as it is coming lately it may include these features.

Samsung Galaxy S Blue tooth v3.0 supports faster connectivity than LG Optimus 2x.

The missing feature in both is the physical QWERTY keypad.

Galaxy S is available globally, whereas LG Optimus 2x will initially be released in January 2011 in Korean market only.
