Apple iPad and Apple iPad 2 are tablet devices from Apple. iPad had been the benchmark for all tablets, now the legacy been passed to iPad 2. iPad and iPad 2 both are powered with Apple Propriety operating system Apple iOS and Apple Processors. iPad was released with Apple A4 processor and iPad 2 is built with A5 processor.  iPad currently runs iOS 4.2.1 while iPad 2 runs iOS 4.3. iPad OS can also be upgraded to iOS 4.3.  The major differences between iPad and iPad 2 are going to be the processor speed, operating system, front and rear built-in cameras, RAM and the thickness. The clock speed of the new A5 processor in iPad 2 is double that of the processor in iPad. Also, the performance of the GPU in iPad 2 is nine+ times better than iPad. The RAM size too doubled in iPad 2. In addition, iPad 2 has dual cameras, which was a shortfall in iPad. On the design side too iPad 2 is made thinner and lighter. It is one of the slimmest tablets in the market with 8.8 mm thinness. Apple is all set to retain its tablet market share with the release of the second generation iPad 2.

The display is designed to show the content in any orientation, in portrait or landscape. The device is powered by Apple’s own propriety operating system, iOS 4.2.1. Initially when the iPad was released it was running on iOS 3.2 with the upgradeable capability. And it can also be upgraded to latest iOS4.3.

Some of the special features of iOS 4.x are the Multi-tasking, AirPrint, AirPlay and find my iPhone. Also it supports for display of multiple languages simultaneously. The mail application is optimized for larger screen, in landscape orientation you can view the opened message and the inbox mail description side by side in split screens. Also you can open different mail boxes in multiple screens or can have everything in a unified mailbox. Using AirPrint you can print the message through wi-fi or 3G.

Apple Safari, the browser used in iPad is amazing on large screen with the multi touch interface redesigned for large screen. You can simply double tap a section on a page to enlarge or shrink it. There’s also a handy thumbnail view that shows all your open pages in a grid, so you can quickly move from one page to the next. Another notable feature of iPad is its battery life, it is claimed to be 10 hours while surfing the web on Wi-Fi, watching videos, or listening to music and on 3G data network, it is up to 9 hours.

iPad 2 has excellent multitasking feature with the support of 1GHz dual core high performance A5 application processor, 512 MB RAM and revamped OS iOS 4.3.

iPad 2 is amazingly slim and light, it’s just 8.8 mm thin and weight 1.33 pounds, that is 33% thinner and 15% lighter than iPad. The new A5 processor’s clock speed is twice faster than A4 and 9 times better on graphics while the power consumption remains same.

The new operating system iOS 4.3 also has improved on some features like iTunes home sharing, improved iMovie , improved AirPlay and the performance of the Safari browser improved with Nitro JavaScript engine. With improved AirPlay you can wirelessly stream your media content to HDTV or speakers via AppleTV.

iPad 2 has added some new features like rare camera with gyro and a new software PhotoBooth, 720p video camcorder, front facing camera with FaceTime for video conferencing, and two applications – improved iMovie and GarageBand turning your iPad 2 in to a small musical instrument. iPad 2 also has HDMI capability- that means you can connect to HDTV via Apple digital AV adapter, which you have to purchase separately.

iPad 2 will have variants to support both 3G-UMTS/HSPA network and 3G-CDMA network and will release Wi-Fi only model also.

iPad 2 is available in black and white colors and use the same battery as iPad and also priced same like iPad. Apple introduces a new bendable magnatic case for iPad 2, named as Smart Cover. iPad 2 will be available in the US market from March 11th and to others from March 25th.
