Apple iPhone 3G vs 3GS | Speed, Features and Performance
The iPhones from the Apple are considered as the greatest innovation in the mobile phone technology. They are the most discussed gadgets since their launch and customers go in pace with every new upgrade. The 3GS has entered the market recently and conquered the hearts of gadget lovers successfully. But there is no much difference when we compare the iPhone 3GS and 3G in terms of the physical appearance. At the first glance, you wouldn’t notice any difference between the two. From the front view, both models appear the same. If you have sharp eyes, you can spot out the model number at the bottom of the back of the two phones. The iPhone 3G is model number A1241 whereas the iPhone 3GS is model A1303. When you compare the weights, the 3GS weighs slightly more than the other.
Over the 3.5” 320*480 display, the 3GS has an oil repellent coating. It is stated by the Apple that the “S” added in the 3GS stands for speed but it does not have lots of improvements over the 3G. Both the phones differ in terms of the memory as the 3GS has a 16GB of memory or 32 GB depending on the specific model you choose. The iPhone 3G have 8GB of memory and may hold up to 1000 songs. If you are more into downloading movies, this one may not be the better choice for you. The new phone offers a better speed compared to the older one. The 600 MHz processor makes 3GS more superior than the 3G with 412 MHz processor. In the 3GS, the additional ARM processor is highly beneficial to increase the ease of use and the applications can be handled much more easily. The 3G can offer up to a maximum speed of 3.6 Mbps whereas the 3GS can reach up to 7.2 Mbps.
The speed of the 3GS phone is offered by the HSDPA technology and hence the use of the 3GS phone in an HSDPA area provides superfast internet connection. The power of camera has been upgraded from the 3G to the 3GS. The newly improved camera with 3.0 megapixel and video recording features in 3GS is a good upgrade from the 2.0 megapixel camera of the 3G version. The software support features of the 3GS are highly updated features from the older version. The 3G can support only the OpenGL ES 1.1 version whereas the 3GS can support the 2nd version. Compared to the older one, this helps the new 3GS to draw better images. The voice control function has been added to the 3GS which makes it unique from the 3G version. The new version has a video function and a built-in compass application that competes with a magnetic compass.
The hardware features have also been updated in the new version and mostly the battery power has been improved. The talk time has been increased to 12 hours from the older version with 10 hours.
