Even in the United States where wi-fi coverage is said to be at a maximum, there are places where you can’t connect to the internet, but then, there are other purposes served from this device apart from browsing the internet. Apple iPod Touch

Apple iPod Touch is a fancy device that comes with great functionalities. It is 111mm of height and 58.9mm of width with a depth of 7.2mm. It only weighs 101g and looks super cool with the slim hulk it has. It has 3.5 inch wide screen multi touch display featuring a resolution of 960 x 640 pixels at a pixel density of 326ppi. It uses Apple A4 processor on top of Apple A4 chipset and, this is the same processor used in both iPhone 4 and iPad. This means you get the same user experience in terms of videos, graphics and games as you get from iPhone 4. Further, since iPod Touch doesn’t have GSM connectivity, it is even more power efficient than the other devices. It has a three axis gyro sensor, an accelerometer as well as an ambient light sensor. The three axis gyro sensor plays a major role in providing you an awesome gaming experience.

Apple iPod touch features Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n as well as the location based services provided along with it. Wi-Fi connectivity is strong and can connect to signals that are marginally weak. Samsung Galaxy S WiFi 4.2 is rather a beautiful handset that comes in a white chromed plastic trim. It is slim, looks elegant and light weight. The dimensions, to be exact, are 124.1 x 66.1mm and 8.9mm thick with a weight of 118g. It differs from the normal Samsung design by the corners, which are not that rounded. It only has one physical button and two touch buttons, which is a normal design pattern for Samsung. Galaxy S WiFi 4.2 has 1GHz of processor on top of TI OMAP 4 chipset and 512MB of RAM. The Android OS v3.2 Gingerbread is the operating system for this handset, and looking at the hardware specs, we got to say that we aren’t that pleased with the single core processor. Samsung does promise an upgrade to Android OS v4.0 ICS, but we have our doubts about how smooth the performance would be.

It comes with 4.2 inches IPS TFT capacitive touchscreen featuring a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, but we think Samsung could have given a better screen panel for this handset. Don’t get me wrong because the panel is great, but there are greater panels from Samsung and greater resolutions. Galaxy S WiFi 4.2 has 2MP camera and a VGA camera at the front for video conferencing. As we have been saying, it’s a non-GSM version, and the only connectivity is Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n. It has two variant, an 8GB version and a 16GB version with the option to expand the storage using a microSD card up to 32GB. Samsung claims that this handset is built for gaming, and the newly introduced six axis gyro sensor was rather sensitive in terms of gaming. It has 1500mAh battery, and we can assume it’ll have a usage time around 6-7 hours in average.

Conclusion

These devices are aimed at a market with a relatively low demand and there doesn’t seem to be any demand fluctuations either. Apparently, the market giant is Apple iPod Touch and Samsung will definitely need a proactive marketing campaign to push through their device because Samsung’s last attempt to challenge iPod was in vain with the Samsung Player 4 and 5. We will stay tuned on the developments of these two devices, but so far, what we can offer as investment guidance is limited. The best course of action is to follow your personal preferences and to let it guide you for both of these devices are of similar caliber although, in terms of hardware, Samsung Galaxy S WiFi 4.2 is somewhat better. If we take the general usage patterns to be observed in these devices, the performance will be more or less the same, so the investment decision should be based on your personal preferences as mentioned above.
