Association and Aggregation are two words that are to be understood separately as there is a difference between association and aggregation. They are not interchangeable in usage. Association is the contact with people. On the other hand, aggregation is joining people in a union. This is the main difference between association and aggregation. As a word, association is only used as a noun. On the other hand, the Oxford English dictionary introduces the word aggregation as a noun that derives from the verb aggregate. Moreover, the word association has its origins in the mid-16th century. Now, let us explore the difference between association and aggregation.

Association is a union. Association is an organization. Association is a well-formed unit which works on the basis of some rules and regulations of the law. While aggregation is a collection of disparate elements, association is a collection of like-minded people or people with similar ideas and goals. Furthermore, association is formed.

While association is a union, aggregation is the method of forming a union. In other words, it can be said that aggregation leads to association. Aggregation is the total. Moreover, aggregation consists in the strengthening of the association by way of finding new members and infrastructure. Aggregation is a collection of disparate elements. It is a collection of items such as gravel, brick, stone and the like meant for the construction of a building. In other words, aggregation is a collection of dissimilar elements at one place. While an association is formed, an aggregation is transformed. In other words, aggregation transforms a place to something special. As said earlier the aggregation of files, computers, desks, lighting and furniture gets transformed into an office. This is how the difference between the two words should be understood.

It is interesting to note that both association and aggregation can be found at a single place too. Take, for example, an office or a bank. It is an association of like-minded people who work towards the same goal. At the same time the office is an aggregation of dissimilar elements like files, computers, desks, furniture, electrical fittings, taps and the like.
