Banana vs Plantain

Banana and Plantain are two fruits that look alike but they have some difference between them. As a matter of fact, bananas are longer than plantains. Bananas also have thicker skin when compared to the plantains. This is the main difference between the two fruits.

It is highly essential that you should cook plantains very well before you consume them. This is due to the fact that plantains contain a high content of starch. Hence, plantain is always used either as a part of the main dish or as a side dish.

On the other hand, bananas can be eaten raw also. It is not necessary that they should be cooked very well before eaten. Bananas are in fact very versatile type of fruits in the sense that you can eat them raw. You can also make banana chips and eat them. You can even add banana to the dessert. Thus, it can be said that banana is eatable in many ways when compared to plantain.

When it comes to nutrition, it is indeed true that banana and plantain are equally nutritious. They are in fact very rich in nutrient content. Both plantain and banana are rich in dietary fiber as well. It is said that banana is a rich source for vitamin A and vitamin C. On the other hand plantain is also said to be a great source of vitamin A and vitamin C.

Bananas are considered as a good source of potassium too, and are hot favorites of body builders and people that want to build muscles. They are good anti-oxidants as well. Hence they are very effective in cleansing the body off the toxic elements and free radicals. On the other hand, plantain is used as a vegetable. These are the differences between banana and plantain.
