These are the stressed beat and the unstressed beat which are also known as the strong beat and the weak beat. The downbeat, which is named after the conductor’s baton movement, carries the strongest sense of repetitiveness over the length of the music most of the times. Majority of music pieces are started with a downbeat. The beat of a music piece can change in the middle of the music piece.
