Blackberry Bold 9780 vs Bold 9900 Touch Screen – Full Specs Compared
Blackberry Bold 9780 and Bold 9900 are the third and forth generation phones from the RIM’s Blackberry Bold family. Bold 9780 is a 2010 release and Bold 9900 with a code name of Dakota is a 2011 Spring release. Compared to Bold 9780, the technical specs of Bold 9900 is very impressive, it’s a quantum leap from the Bold 9780 specs. Like the other 2011 blackberry releases, Bold 9900 also sports a high speed second generation processor from Qualcomm (1.2 GHz Qualcomm MSM8655 Snapdragon processor) with 768MB RAM, a better display with 287dpi (640 x 480 pixels) and 8GB built-in memory. The exterior design of Bold 9900 is same as the elder sibilings but it has a wider QWERTY keyboard and a capactive touchscreen for navigation. The new Bold also runs the latest Blackberry 6.1 OS that has NFC feature added. RIM has finally decided to reward its loyal Blackberry fans with this new 2011 specs.
Blackberry Bold 9900 (Code Name: Dakota) with Touch Screen
Blackberry Bold 9900 has a very impressive technical specification, it has got a 2.8″ transmissive TFT LCD touch screen with HVGA resolution (640 x 480 pixels) and a 35 key back-lit WIDE QWERTY keyboard. In addition to touch screen it has that unique optical trackpad placed conveniently on the front face of the device for fast navigation. People will be using the trackpad more than touch screen for navigation.
The Bold 9900 is powered by 1.2 GHZ Qualcomm MSM8655 Snapdragon processor with 768 MB RAM and Blackberry 6.1 OS (with NFC feature). It has 8GB pre-installed memory and has the microSD card slot for expansion up to 32GB. The camera is 5MP that features auto focus, 4x digital zoom, 720p HD video recording and supported by LED flash.
The standard dedicated keys are located in the same places like earlier and it has added some dedicated media keys; Send, Power, Escape, Lock, customizable Camera key, Volume up/down (Fwd/Rwd for media, Zoom for camera) and Mute key (Play/Pause for media). The user interface is simple with intuitive icons and menus. Bold 9900 also has the standard sensors like accelerometer, magnetometer (e-compass) and proximity sensor.
For connectivity it has Bluetooth v2.1 that supports Stereo A2DP 1.2/AVRCP 1.3, media file transfer and secure simple pairing, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n (at both 2.4 and 5GHz) that can be used to access Blackberry Enterprise Server, Blackberry Internet Server and for direct IP web browsing and USB 2.0 High Speed for charging and data synchronization. The phone also can be used a 3G mobile hotspot to connect 5 Wi-Fi enabled devices. For location based service it has A-GPS with preloaded Blackberry Maps.
Bold 9900 is compatible with quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and Tri-band UMTS/HSUPA(5.76Mbps)/HSDPA (14.4Mbps) networks.
The CDMA version of the Blackberry Bold 9900 is the Bold 9930 with a code name of Montana.
Bold 9780
Bold 9780 is a candy bar design with 2.4″ TFT LCD HVGA (480 x 360) display and QWERTY keyboard. Not much deviation from BlackBerry’s classic design. The keyboard is narrow compared to Bold 9900. The screen has a higher PPI compared to Torch 9800, though it is lower than Bold 9900 (Bold 9780 – 247, Torch 9800 – 187, Bold 9900 – 287) which gives crisper display of text and graphics. Bold 9780 is powered by 634 MHz Marvell Tavor PXA930 processor with Blackberry 6.0 OS and has 512MB RAM.
The other features include 2GB media card, 5MP camera that has 2x digital zoom, LED flash and video recording at 174 x 144 and 352 x 480 pixels. For connectivity it has built-in Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, Bluetooth v2.1 and USB 2.0. For location based service it has A-GPS with pre-installed Blackberry Maps. For network connectivity it’s compatible with quad-band GSM/GPRS/GSM and for 3G tri-band UMTS/HSUPA/HSDPA 7.2Mbps.
