Blue Nose vs Red Nose Pitbulls

Difference between Blue and Red nosed pit bulls would be beneficial to know, as it could mislead anyone as there is very little information about them. One such misinterpretation is that these are two different dog breeds, but they are not so. However, there are Blue nosed and Red nosed pit bulls, and this makes a controversy about the statements. Therefore, getting into some details about these dogs would be beneficial. For a better clarification, this article discusses the characteristics of pit bull terriers (aka American pit bull terrier), and then deals with the major facts about Blue and Red nose dogs, and differences between them.

Pit Bull Terrier or American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT)

This is a medium sized dog and a member of the Molosser breed group. They originated in the United States, but their ancestors were from England and Ireland. APBTs were the resulted progeny from the crossbreeding between terriers and bulldogs. They have a short coat of fur and their colourations could vary depending on the parents. Their musculature is smooth and well developed but never appears bulky. Their eyes are round to almond shaped and ears are small. An adult pit bull terrier ranges from 15 to 40 kilograms of weight, and the heights vary from 36 to 61 centimetres at the withers. Generally, they are friendly with their owners as well as with strangers. They have been trained for hunting purposes, as they are good chasers. A healthy pit bull terrier could live about 14 years.

Blue Nose Pit Bull

Blue nosed pit bulls are one of the colour types of APBTs. Interestingly, many breeders state that Blue nose dogs have some unique characters with them, but genuine dog breeders do not accept is as a true excerpt. It is true that Blue nose pit bulls have blue colour nose, eyes, and sometimes toenails, as well.

Red Nose Pit Bull

These dogs have an ancestry with the Old Family Red Nose (OFRN) of pit bulls, which had an Irish origin. The OFRN is a strain of APBTs famous for their specific colouration of copper-red lips, nose, and toenails. Additionally, their eyes are red or amber in colour. In the mid 19th century, there was an inbred group of dogs in Ireland known as Old Family. These Old Family dogs had a closed gene pool containing recessive genes for their characteristic copper red colour in the coat and other features. However, after Irish immigrants brought these dogs to America with them, those were referred as Red nosed pit bulls. Red nosed pit bulls have a excellent reputation for their gameness, and they represent some important history and tradition about pit bulls.

What is the difference between Blue Nose and Red Nose Pitbulls?

The main noticeable differences between Red nose and Blue nose pit bulls are the colouration differences as their names indicate and the ancestral histories. Red nosed pit bulls have a renowned ancestry but not so for the Blue nosed pit bulls. Other than those differences, there is no pronounced distinction between them, but only pit bull terriers or APBTs with different colourations and history.
