Difference Between Brochure and Leaflet

Key Differnce – Brochure vs Leaflet

Brochures and leaflets are two similar types of products. A brochure is a leaflet or pamphlet that is intended for free publication. A leaflet is an informative or promotional publication that is made of a single sheet of paper. The key difference between brochure and leaflet is their purpose; brochures are only used to promote companies, their products and services whereas leaflets can also be used to inform and educate the general public.

What is a Brochure?

A brochure is a printed publication with multiple pages. It can either be a pamphlet or a leaflet. Brochures are usually created from single sheets; they are then folded into parts to create bi-folds (four panels) and tri-folds (six panels).  Brochures are mainly used as promotional or advertising materials. Various companies use brochures to introduce themselves, their products, services and benefits to prospective customers.

Brochures are usually printed on high-quality paper and require technical expertise since the folds need to be precise to produce a high-quality product. Creating brochures may be expensive and time-consuming than creating flyers. So they are not usually given out as freely as business cards or flyers.  Travel and tourism brochures are a common type of brochures that are used by many hotels and travel agencies. Brochures are also available in electronic format. Such brochures are called e-brochures.

What is a Leaflet?

A leaflet is a printed publication that is intended for free publication. Leaflets are typically made from one sheet of paper; this paper is folded into parts such as bi-folds and tri-folds. Leaflets can also be used to advertise and promote products and services, but, unlike brochures, leaflets are not only used for commercial purposes. They are also used by the government, nonprofit organisations and even religious groups to inform and educate people about certain causes and issues. For example, leaflets may contain information about prevention of a disease. Leaflets are also used for political campaigns and protests.

Leaflets are freely distributed among people. They can be distributed or posted in public places, handed out to individuals, or sent door-to-door via the post. They are also kept in places where people are bound to look (e.g. windscreens, restaurant tables).  Unlike brochures, leaflets can also be printed in cheap papers, with black and white print. But there are also leaflets that are printed on high-quality paper. They can also take various shapes and sizes. Leaflets are an important and inexpensive tool in mass communication and marketing.
