Christianity vs Sikhism

Christianity and Sikhism are two important religions of the world that show differences between them when it comes to their religious practices, beliefs, dogmas and the like. Sikhism is a religion based on the teachings of Guru Nanak and his nine important disciples. On the other hand, Christianity has its founder in Jesus Christ. This is the major difference between the two religions.

As a matter of fact, Christianity is one of the most practiced religion in the whole world. In fact, it can be said that it is practiced by at least a third of the whole population of the world put together. On the other hand, Sikhism stands at the fifth position as far as the number of people following the religion is concerned.

The followers of Christianity are called as Christians, whereas the followers of Sikhism are called by the name Sikhs. The Sikhs have their baptism conducted at the Gurudwara. It is important to know that the place of worship of the Christians is called as Church, whereas the place of worship of the Sikhs is called as Gurudwara. This is another important difference between the two religions.

Guru Granth Sahib is the text of authority for the Sikhs. On the other hand, the Bible is the text of authority for the Christians. Christianity is based on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. He is portrayed as the son of God in the Holy Bible.

It is important to know that Sikhism accepts only one God. They say that God is shapeless, formless, timeless and he cannot be sighted or seen. On the other hand, Christianity says that Jesus Christ is the only God.

The Sikhs have to wear the five important items on them at all times. They are uncut hair, comb, iron bangle, a special undergarment and a dagger. On the other hand, there is no specific code of dress or items prescribed for the Christians. Work, worship and charity are the three important dogmas of Sikhism. This is the reason why free meals are distributed in the Sikh temples. Distribution of free meals is considered as part of charity.

On the other hand, the Christians believe in dogmas such as Hell or Heaven after death, communion of saints, Holiness of the churches, resurrection and the salvation for the faithful. These are the important differences between the two religions, namely Christianity and Sikhism.
