Difference Between DJ and MC

DJ vs MC

 

DJ and MC are often seen on gathered events with audience and music. You may go to clubs, discotheques, or attend a wedding or maybe a recital, pay attention to the music and to the person communicating with the audience and you have your DJ and MC.

DJ

DJ, or disc jockey, mainly prepares recorded music by making selections and then plays them in places where there are functions and parties. There are currently a number of different types of DJs. One is radio DJ who prepares a list of music that will be played on air via AM, FM, internet radios, shortwave or digital stations. Club DJ prepares a list of music to be played in bars, clubs or discos. Hip hop DJ plays music with the use turntables, sometimes by scratching them to create percussive sounds. Reggae DJ however is a vocalist who talks, raps or chats over a pre-recorded music chosen by the selector.

MC

MC, or Master of Ceremonies, basically handles a program of the show. An MC or emcee doesn’t stay in the background, instead he is in charge of keeping the audience alive and entertained during an entire performance or show by speaking to them, cracking jokes and just keeps the event moving. In the music industry, particularly hip hop, MC is a microphone controller which he uses vocals for rapping lyrics and controlling the crowd.

Difference between DJ and MC

It isn’t difficult identify an MC from DJ. While you normally witness an MC do wonders in handling programs of events and keeping people attentive and enthusiastic, DJs do theirs either on air or in events in clubs and discos where they will prepare the list of music they’ll play for the audience to enjoy. Most DJs get recognition through beautifully mixed tempos of music and using percussive music through turntable scratching while MCs are praised by how well they engage their audience through catchy talks, funny jokes and provoking raps.

One way to make an event memorable is to have an MC and/or DJ. These two, different they may be in serving their purpose, can make your audience at their feet and always anticipating what will come next.

In brief:

•DJ generally attends to music. He prepares a list of recorded music and plays them on air or off air for an audience in a party or other events. MC keeps the event he’s handling in a lively atmosphere and basically keeps it moving smoothly until the end.

•DJ has a number of different types and they are radio, reggae, hip hop and club.

•MC also stands for a badge which represents excellence particularly in hip hop music.
