People often wonder about the better egg when they have the choice to select between chicken laid and duck laid eggs. Simply, the understanding about the difference between these two types of eggs would provide a better platform for them to take the best choice. In general, usage of chicken eggs is more common among people compared to the consumption of duck eggs. Therefore, awareness about the characteristics of duck eggs is low among most of the public. This article intends to discuss the important facts about both chicken and duck eggs and performs a comparison between the two.

Duck Eggs

Ducks lay large eggs that are quite distinguishable among many other avian eggs, but those are smaller than goose eggs. The average weight of a duck egg is about 130 grams. The shells of these eggs are tough and not easily broken. Therefore, the shelf life of duck eggs is long or, in other words, those could be kept good to use for about six weeks. The ratio of egg yolk to egg white is high in duck eggs compared to many of the other types of avian eggs due to their large size. The nutrients are important to consider in duck eggs, and there are about 185 Kilocalories of energy in 100 grams. In addition, proteins, vitamins, ions, and other important minerals (viz. potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, pantothenic, folic acid, and many more) are present in duck eggs. Moreover, every 100 grams of duck eggs contain 3.68 grams of saturated fats, and there are 17 amino acids in each egg. These highly nutritional duck eggs contain some problematic components such as cholesterol in high amounts (more than 880 milligrams of cholesterol in 100 grams of egg). The water content is not the highest in duck eggs, and the taste is unique and addictive due to the fats. The Chinese recipe of salted duck eggs is particularly popular among people.

Chicken Eggs

Chicken eggs are the best-known eggs in the world and the most popular one, as well. That is mainly because the availability of chicken eggs is very high and people often consume chicken eggs in their day-to-day life. These are medium sized eggs with about 70 grams of weight. The presence of many nutrients such as proteins, saturated fats (3.1 grams per 100 grams of egg), amino acids, vitamins, minerals, and carbohydrates make the chicken eggs perfect for a meal. However, the amount of cholesterols is about 425 milligrams per 100 grams of eggs, and it makes the chicken egg a little unhealthy for people, especially for the heart patients. Since much of the cholesterols are present in the egg yolk, it may not be so harmful to consume chicken eggs without the yolk. Most people prefer the yolk of the egg, especially, for the taste that offers is better than the taste of the egg white. Chicken egg contains more water than many other avian eggs that are consumed by man, and that has caused the taste of the egg to be belittled among others. However, it has been the chicken eggs, on which man mainly relies for the protein requirements.

• A duck egg is larger and heavier than a chicken egg.

• Contained nutrients in a unique weight are higher in duck eggs than in chicken eggs.

• Chicken eggs contain more water than duck eggs.

• Duck eggs have more calories than chicken eggs.

• Chicken eggs are considerably more common than duck eggs.

• Chicken eggs are available in two colours (white and brown), whereas duck eggs could be white, grey, speckled, or brown.

• Chicken eggs do not offer a unique taste, but duck eggs do.
