Fajitas vs Burritos
Burritos, tacos, and fajitas are all Mexican food items that are popular in many parts of the world as they are served in fast food restaurants. It is often difficult for people to recognize any differences between these foods of Mexican cuisine because of their similarities. This applies in particular to fajitas and burritos that look similar. This article intends to highlight the differences between fajitas and burritos, to enable readers to identify and also to ask them with confidence at restaurants.
Fajitas
This is a delicious food item from the Mexican cuisine that includes barbecued meat served on an omelet made of cornmeal or wrapped inside this omelet. There are variations of this dish with different varieties of meats being used in different parts of the world. While it was only beef that was used to make fajitas earlier, it is common to use chicken or pork to make these tasty delights. The dish is spicy and hot and is eaten with condiments such as sour crème, cheese, or tomatoes. The name fajita has been derived from the name of a cut of beef. Of course, it could be made with chicken or pork these days.
Burritos
Burrito is a Mexican food item that is made by filling beans, meats, or other vegetables inside tortillas made of wheat flour and served hot with condiments. Though burrito is the name of a donkey in Spanish, the reason why burritos are so named may be because of their similarity with the ears of donkeys when rolled and wrapped to serve as a food item. Burritos are also called taco de harina in some parts of Mexico.
What is the difference between Fajitas and Burritos?
• Both burritos and fajitas are spicy Mexican food items served with fillings wrapped inside a tortilla.
• The main difference between fajita and burrito lies in the manner in which the filling is wrapped inside the tortilla with the filling completely sealed inside the wrapper in case of fajita whereas an opening at one end with a deep pocket at the other end of the wrapper in case of a burrito.
• While the filling was originally made of beef in case of fajitas, chicken and even pork is today used to make fajitas.
