Food Processor vs Blender
Food processors and blenders are such common household appliances that most of us have not just seen them, all of us even make use of both kitchen workhorses for preparation of food items. There is some overlapping as far as functions of food processors and blenders are concerned and both are handy to have in a kitchen as they prove useful in preparation of dishes. However, there are differences in their specialties and features that will be highlighted in this article.
Blender
A blender is so called because it has been designed to blend liquids. This is why some also call it liquidizer or liquefier. Because a blender works with liquids, it is tall and thin in design. Its blades are short and angled, and it has a great motor speed that makes it dangerous for kids who may hurt themselves badly. Blender was invented in 1930 by F. J. Osius who preferred to call it a machine that produces fluent substances. The company that purchased this patent to manufacture and market blenders saw huge potential of the gadget in bars to mix drinks to make cocktails. In fact, blenders are an integral part of the process of drink making in bars till today. However, blenders are used in kitchens all over the world for various tasks such as making smoothies, shakes, making juices of fruits, making chutneys and chopping bread crumbs.
Food Processor
Food processors made a late entry in 1970’s into kitchens but soon became very popular because of their ability to multiple tasks at the same time making it convenient and easier for housewives in kitchens. Food processors have different blades and attachments to help people take on different tasks in the kitchen such as grating, chopping, mincing, slicing, kneading etc making it a very versatile appliance that helps save a lot of time and effort. Whether it is grating of cheese or chopping of vegetables, food processors do all tasks within seconds that otherwise take a lot of time of the housewives. Food processors have a motor that is slower than that of a blender but food processors have a pulse function that provides users with a better control over the jobs at hand.
What is the difference between Food Processor and Blender? • Blenders have short blades and a very powerful motor as they have to work mostly with liquids. This is why they are also called liquidizers. • On the other hand, food processors mostly work with solid food items and hence have different blades and attachments. They have a slower motor than blenders. • Food processors can dry grind, but blenders work after addition of a liquid inside its container. • Food processors are more versatile than blenders that are restricted to be working with liquids only. • Food processors are short and stubby while blenders are long and thin. • Food processors can grate cheese and other vegetables while a blender cannot grate a food item.
