Geography vs Geology
Geography and Geology are two types of study or branches of study that deal with different subjects. Geology is the study of the earth. On the other hand, geography is the study of topography of the earth. This is the major difference between the two words.
What ever that makes up, the earth forms fit to be studied under geology. It includes both solid and liquid forms. The composition of the earth, its crust, structural and physical components of the earth fall under the study of geology. Geology includes scientific enquiry about the composition of the surface of the earth and the scientific enquiry about the physical constituents of the planet.
On the other hand, geography deals with the study of the topography of the earth, namely, its atmosphere, climate, weather, volcanoes, and the like. Geography deals with the position of the different areas, countries, continents, and the like. The climate prevailing in a particular country and the weather of the zone are dealt with great detail in geographical studies.
Geography deals with the physical shapes of various pieces of land, mountains, rivers, and the like. In other words, it gives an idea about how far a river flows, how far a mountainous range spreads, how far an ocean spreads, and the like. It deals with the aspects of the study of ocean, formation of tides, waves and the like. Geography deals with the mapping of the various landforms. It also gives us sufficient information about the location of the various landforms, including countries, cities and the like. Thus, geography is considered as a branch of science.
On the other hand, geology is closely related to engineering. Geography has nothing to do with engineering. The study of the various minerals found in the crust of the planet earth and its areas form the important part of the study of geology. On the other hand, geography deals with the natural phenomena like volcano eruption, earthquake formation, tsunami and its creation, tornados and their formation, hurricanes and their formation, cyclonic formation, and the like.
Geology directly deals with the physical properties of the earth. On the other hand, geography deals with the natural phenomena concerned with the planet earth. A person who is adept in the science of geology is called geologist, whereas a person who is adept in the science of geography is called a geographer.
