HTC unveiled two new 4G-LTE smart phones recently; one was HTC Rezound for US carrier Verizon Wireless on 3 November 2011 and the other was HTC Vivid for AT&T on 31 October 2011. Both are great phones running Android 2.3.4 (Gingerbread) but with a promised upgrade to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) by the first quarter of 2012. HTC Rezound looks like the US version of the HTC Sensation XE, which was unveiled in Europe in September 2011. However, HTC Rezound’s spec has been improved further with a better display and higher storage capacity. HTC Rezound has 4.3” Super LCD HD 720p display (1280 x 720pixels), 8 MP camera, and powered by 1.5 GHz dual core processor. HTC Vivid has a massive 4.5” Super LCD qHD (960 x 540 pixels) display, the same 8MP camera like Rezound, and powered by 1.2 GHz dual core processor. HTC Rezound will be available from 14 November 2011 at Verizon Wireless stores and Best Buy for $300 with a new 2-year contract. HTC Vivid will be available from 6 November 2011 at AT&T stores for $200 with a 2-year commitment.

HTC Rezound

HTC Rezound was officially released on November 3rd 2011 in New York. This latest android smart phone by HTC is mainly intended as an Entertainment phone and released for the Verizon 4G LTE wireless network. Outstanding features of this device are the inclusion of the Dr. Dre’s Beats Audio™ technology, superior camera quality and the impressive display. The device will be available in Black.

The newly released HTC Rezound stands tall with 5.1” and its 2.6” wide. The thickness of the device is 0.54”. Considering the current smart phone market HTC Rezound can be considered rather bulky. HTC Rezound reportedly doesn’t feel bulky in hand though the phone appears quite big. However, the impressive screen size and the quality will be much welcomed by users. The Rezound is has a 4.3” super LCD display with 1280 x 720 HD resolution (341 PPI). As HTC Rezound is targeted as a multimedia device the superior quality display will be much appreciated. In terms of connectivity, HTC Rezound supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G HSPA+ data rates and most importantly 4G LTE speed. Micro USB support is also available on HTC HTC Rezound. The device has sensors such as G-sensor, Light sensor, Compass and Proximity sensor. Interestingly, HTC Rezound has wireless charging also enabled.

HTC Rezound is powered by a third generation Qualcomm MSM 8660 Snapdragon processor, having dual 1.5 GHz CPUs and Adreno 220 GPU. The superior performance is very important since the Rezound is placed as a multimedia smart phone. The device reportedly has 1GB worth RAM and 16 GB internal memory with another 16 GB pre-installed micro SD card. The storage of HTC Rezound can be extended up to 32 GB with a micro-SD card.

The multimedia capability of HTC Rezound deserves to be reviewed at great detail. The Beats Audio™ integration takes centre stage in the uniqueness of this device. Users of HTC Rezound will a experience high quality audio experience. HTC Rezound comes coupled with light weight Beats head phones that justifies the big price tag on the device. The Beats head phones can be integrated with the phones audio profile and allows pause as well while listening to music.

The HTC Rezound boasts an 8-megapixel rear facing camera with f/2.2 aperture, autofocus and dual LED flash. The camera also includes a 28mm wide-angle lens with special sensor, which allows taking photographs of wider sceneries, and allows better performance in low light. HTC Rezound also comes with a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. The rear facing camera is also capable of HD video recording at 1080 p, and has attractive features such as slow motion video, action burst, instant capture, panorama, and add effects.  The HDMI feature available enables sending video to a compatible TV, as well. HTC Rezound comes complete with Stereo FM radio with RDS.

HTC Rezound runs on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and the device are expected to get an update to Android 4.0 (Ice cream sandwich) in the first Quarter of 2011. The user interface is highly customized with the latest version of HTC Sense. The lock screen is customizable and users can change it according to personal preference. By turning on the display users will be able to view weather updates, updates from their relevant social networking sites and photos. If HTC Rezound gets an upgrade to Android 4.0 the features is already available in the operating system. Another new feature available with this latest version of HTC Sense is the group messaging and group multimedia messaging available. Using FriendStream™ users can view updates on their contacts and sync contact list with all email accounts.

With a standard battery of 1620 mAh the HTC Rezound should get by a normal working day with ease. However, it’s too early to comment on the battery performance without the device being available in the market.

Although, it is packed with great hardware inside, the external appearance is not very attractive. HTC claims that it has designed Rezound from the cues it got from Droid Incredible. Rezound is bulky and has a soft rubberized back. The black body has a trace of red accent. The phone will be available from 14 November 2011 with Verizon Wireless stores and Best Buy for $300 with a new 2-year contract.

HTC Vivid

HTC Vivid was officially released on 31 October 2011. This latest Android smart phone by HTC is mainly intended as an Entertainment phone with a huge 4.5” qHD display, and a 8 mega pixels rear camera with f/2.2 aperture, 28mm wide lens, low light CMOS sensor. It is one of the first phones to be released for the AT&T 4G LTE network, which was launched in September 2011 November.

The newly released HTC Vivid stands tall with 5.07” and its 2.64” wide. The thickness of the device is 0.44”. Considering the current smart phone market HTC Vivid can be considered rather bulky, still lighter than HTC Rezound. However, as a multimedia phone, the screen size of 4.5” very impressive. The HTC Vivid has a 4.5” super LCD display with qHD (960 x 540 pixels) resolution. It is available in black and white.

The phone currently runs Android 2.3.4 with HTC Sense 3.0 for UI. The active lockscreen feature in HTC Sense includes camera, social updates, weather and stock updates etc. In terms of connectivity, HTC Vivid supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth ver. 3.0, 3G HSPA+ and most importantly 4G LTE speed. Micro USB support is also available on Vivid. The device has sensors such as G-sensor, Light sensor, Compass and Proximity sensor.
