HTC Thunderbolt vs Motorola Atrix 4G
HTC Thunderbolt and Motorola Atrix 4G are two 4G Android phones that touch the market in March 2011. Both run Android 2.2 and you can expect that to be upgraded to the new Android version, hopefully they are waiting for Android 2.4 release. Both devices have superb hardware that support the high speed 4G network. HTC Thunderbolt is the first Android 4G smartphone to experience the true 4G speed with Verizon’s LTE network. LTE can theoretically offer 73 to 150 Mbps on downlink, but Verizon promises users 5 to 12 Mbps download speed. HTC thunderbolt is powered by 1GHz Qualcomm application processor with MDM 9600 multimode modem (LTE/HSPA+/CDMA) and features 4.3 inches WVGA display, 768 MB RAM, 8 MP camera, 8 GB onboard memory with pre-installed 32 GB microSD card and built in kickstand. On the other hand Motorola Atrix 4G is now served on HSPA+ network (which the US carrier AT&T market as 4G speed) that theoretically delivers 21+Mbps upload speed and by the end Q2 2011 users can experience the 4G speed of LTE network. Motorola Atrix 4G is a highend phone powered by Nvidia Tegra 2 1GHz dual core processor and 1 GB RAM with 4 inches QHD display. It’s one of the best Android smartphone released by Motorola so far. Motorola introduced the Webtop technology with this phone. You can switch this phone in to webtop mode with the special laptop dock and can enjoy the mobile computing experience in a 11.5″ screen. With Motorola Atrix 4G you can experience the power of mobile computing at 4G speed. Both the phones have mobile hotspot capability and front facing camera for video calling.
HTC Thunderbolt
The HTC Thunderbolt with 4.3″ WVGA display is made powerful to support the 4G speed with 1GHz Qualcomm MSM 8655 Snapdragon processor in tandem with MDM9600 modem for multimode network support and 768 MB RAM. This handset has 8megapixel camera with dual LED flash, 720pHD video recording in the rear and 1.3megapixel camera in the front for video calling. The phone runs on Android 2.2 (upgradeable to 2.3) with HTC Sense 2 that offers fast boot and enhanced personalization option and new camera effects. It also has an internal storage capacity of 8 GB and preinstalled 32 GB microSD and built in kickstand for handsfree media viewing.
Qualcomm claims that they are the industry’s first to release LTE/3G Multimode Chipsets. 3G multimode is required for ubiquitous data coverage and voice services.

HTC Sense in Thunderbolt
The latest HTC Sense, which HTC calls as the social intelligence gives a unique experience to users with its many small but intelligent applications. The improved HTC Sense enables fast boot and has added many new multimedia features. HTC Sense has enhanced camera application with many camera features like full screen viewfinder, touch focus, onscreen access to camera adjustments and effects. The other features include HTC locations with on-demand mapping (service depend on the carrier), integrated e-reader that support text search from Wikipedia, Google, Youtube or dictionary. Browsing is made enjoyable with features like magnifier, quick look up to look for a word, Wikipedia search, Google search, YouTube search, Google translate and Google dictionary. You can add a new window for browsing or move from one to another windows by zooming in and out. It also offers a good music player, which is better than the standard Android music player. There are many other features with htc sense that give a beautiful experience to users.
The phone hit the market on 17 March 2011 and is sure to catch the eyes of many, especially those who are obsessed with speed.
In the US market, HTC Thunderbolt has an exclusive tie up with Verizon. HTC Thunderbolt is the first 4G phone to run on Verizon’s 4G-LTE network (Network support LTE 700, CDMA EvDO Rev.A). Verizon promises 5 to 12 Mbps download speeds and upload speeds of 2 to 5 Mbps in 4G Mobile Broadband coverage area. Verizon is offering Thunderbolt for $250 on a new two year contract. Customers have to subscribe to a Verizon Wireless Nationwide Talk plan and a 4G LTE data package. Nationwide Talk plans starts from $39.99 monthly access and an unlimited 4G LTE data plan begins at $29.99 monthly access. Mobile hotspot is included through May 15 for no additional charge.
Motorola Atrix 4G
The powerful Android smartphone from Motorola Atrix 4G is packed with excellent features and gives a benchmark performance. The 4″ QHD capacitive touch screen display that supports 960x 540 pixels resolution and 24-bit color depth produces a real sharp and bright pictures on the screen. The Nvidia Tegra 2 chipset (built with 1 GHz dual core ARM Cortex A9 CPU and GeForce GT GPU) with 1 GB RAM and a very responsive display makes mulitasking smooth and gives a better browsing and gaming experience. The unique feature of Atrix 4G is the webtop techology and the fingerprint scanner. Motorola introduced the Webtop technology with Atrix 4G that replaces a laptop. All you need to enjoy the power of mobile computing is the laptop dock and the software (which you have to purchase separately). The 11.5 inch laptop dock with full physical keyboard is built in with Mozilla firefox browser and adobe flash player that allows a fast, seemless browsing in a large screen. It will also mirror your phone content on the large screen. You can connect to internet with Wi-Fi or HSPA+ network at 4G speed. The phone is also 4G-LTE ready.
The fingerprint scanner combined with the power button at the top center back of the gadget gives an added security, you can enable the feature by going in to the set up and input your finger print with pin number.
The other features include 5 megapixel rare camera with dual LED flash and capapbility of HD video recording at 720p@30fps, front VGA camera (640×480 pixels) for video calling, internal memory of 16GB that can be expanded to 32GB using a memory card, HDMI port, microUSB port (HDMI cable and USB cable are included to the package). Video recording and play can increase to 1080p with OS upgrade to Android 2.3 or more. The battery life is very good compared to many other smartphones, it has a removable 1930 mAh Li-ion battery with a rated talk time of maximum 9 hours and up to 250 hours of standby time.

The phone is quite slim and light with 4.8 oz and a dimension of 4.6″x2.5″x0.4″.

The device is availabe in the US market from March 2011 with AT&T. AT&T sells Motorola Atrix 4G phone for $200 (phone only) on a 2 years contract with laptop dock for $500 on two year contract. It’s available in Amazon Wireless for $700.
