Huawei is expanding its profile in the tablet market with its new 7 inch MediaPad that runs the very new Android 3.2 (Honeycomb). Tasting the success of its IDEOS S7 Slim in the market, it has released yet another 7″ tablet which is slimmer, lighter and smarter than the IDEOS tablets. It’ very close in thickness to Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1; just 0.06″ more than the thickness of Galaxy Tab 10.1, which is the thinnest tablet so far measuring only 0.34″ (8.6mm). Huawei introduced the new Honeycomb tablet at ‘CommunicAsia 2011’ in Singapore on 20 June 2011 as the ‘world’s first Android 3.2 dual core tablet.’ Android 3.2 is the latest Honeycomb that supports Adobe Flash Player 10.3 and specially optimized for 7″ tablets. Let’s see what Huawei has packed inside this cute little device and how it will challenge Samsung’s 10.1″ Honeycomb tablet: Galaxy Tab 10.1.

The 7″ tablet with a WSVGA LCD capacitive multi touchscreen that’s built with IPS technology and 217 pixels per inch is Huawei’s slimmest and lightest tablet measuring only 10.5 mm (0.34″) thickness and weighing 390g (0.86 lbs). The tablet that boasts as the worlds first Android 3.2 tablet is loaded with 1.2 GHz dual core Qualcomm processor, dual cameras: 5MP at the rear with HD video recording capability and 1.3MP at the front, built in Mic, 8GB internal memory, microSD card slot for expansion up to 32GB, 1080p full HD video playback, HDMI port, Wi-Fi 802.11n, Bluetooth and HSPA+14.4Mbps for 3G network connectivity. The battery is a decent 4100 mAh Li-polymer with 6 hours battery life.

The tablet is preloaded with Apps like Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Let’s Golf, Documents to go and many other. Huawei is expanding the entertainment experience further by fully integrating with Hispace cloud solution for cloud based internet content.

Galaxy Tab 10.1 is the world’s thinnest tablet (0.34″) and lighest tablet (1.25lbs) in the large tablet category. It’s a perfect design from Samsung directly challenging iPad 2. Galaxy Tab 10.1 has imitated iPad 2 in many features. It features a 10.1 inches WXGA (1280×800; 149 pixels per inch) TFT LCD display, 1GHz dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, 1 GB DDR RAM, 16GB/32GB internal memory, dual cameras – 3MP at the rear with 720p video capability and 2 MP in the front, built in dual speakers for surround sound, DivX video codec, Bluetooth v2.1, Wi-Fi 802.11n, support HDMI up to 1080p, A-GPS with Google Maps, 30 pin universal port and powered by Android 3.1 Honeycomb. It has Wi-Fi only model as well as 3G/(HSPA+21Mbps) + Wi-Fi models.

Unlike many of the other Honeycomb tablets that run stock Android, Galaxy Tab 10.1 runs its TouchWiz skin over Honeycomb. The new TouchWiz 4.0 offers a new user experience with live panels and mini apps.

The Galaxy tablet like iPad does not have USB or HDMI port or SD card slot in itself but holds a universal 30pin port. Connection to HDTV or USB devices is via a connection kit and HDMI/USB adapter (a 30 pin USB data cable is included to the package that can be used to connect with computer). SD card adapter is also available as an optional accessory which is part of the connection kit.

It has a built in 7000 mAh battery and the battery life (9 hours) is quite impressive and in par with iPad 2. Energy saving processor with low power DDR RAM enable perfect task management in energy efficient way.

In the content side, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is loaded with plenty of apps from Android Market, Google Mobile Service and Mobile Office.
