Marriage is perhaps one of the oldest social institutions to help in survival of a family. Husband and wife enter into a relationship, which is in many ways need based, but also it ensures a strong emotional bond between the two that becomes stronger with the arrival of kids in the family. While in some cultures husband is superior to wife, there is also handful of places where it is the wife who holds the reigns of the family. No matter how a society perceives the roles of spouses in a marriage and family, the fact remains that the role of both husband and wife is equally important in the creation and survival of a family. Yes, there are obvious differences between husband and wife that cannot be ignored, and, in this article, such differences are highlighted.

Husband

Traditionally, the male partner in a relationship sanctioned by the institution of marriage is called the husband. Since time immemorial, it has been the husband who has performed the role of a breadwinner for the family. Though times have changed and a wife plays an equally important role as far as finances of a family are concerned. Husband looks after the material needs of the family and provides security to wife and kids, as well.

Wife

When the role of wife in a marriage as well as raising the family is concerned, she looks after the needs of not just husband but also the kids. She carries the child of her husband in her womb for 9 months and then feeds him with her own milk to make him survive. She is traditionally been fulfilling her responsibility of making food for the family. Wife looks after the upkeep of the home. With advancing times, she plays an equal role in finances as she also works to earn like husband. In this sense, wife plays a dual responsibility, as she has to look after home and kids also.

What is the difference between Husband and Wife?

• In the institution of marriage and family, both husband and wife play equally important roles, and neither marriage nor a family is complete without either husband or wife.

• Husband is the head of the family and takes the responsibility of fulfilling financial needs of the family while wife takes up the responsibility of looking after the kitchen and home. However, wives have started to work along with husbands playing a much harder role of looking home as well as earning.

• Kids are the responsibility of wife, and she also carries them in her womb for 9 months.
