The words indulge and involve, are two verbs in the English language between which a key difference can be discerned concerning their meanings. First let us define the two words. To indulge is to allow someone to have their way or else to satisfy a desire. To involve is to participate or have as a necessary part. The key difference between indulge and involve is that, unlike in involve, indulge can be used for instances where the individual acts as he wishes. In involve, the individual is given the opportunity to participate but he is denied the opportunity to have his way. This is one of the main differences. As you examine the article, you will notice that it can be used for various situations in which case different meanings are also generated. What is Indulge?

Let us begin with the word indulge. Indulge is a verb. To indulge is to allow someone to do or have what they want.

The parents indulged him to behave as he pleases.

The girls were indulged in the latest trends.

Indulge can also be used when we want to allow ourselves something enjoyable.

She indulged in making as many purchases as she desired with her new income.

They indulged in idle gossip.

The word indulge can also be used when we want to refer to satisfying a desire.

The whole party indulged in the feast.

He indulged in the rich cakes and pastries for he has never witnessed such food.

Difference Between Indulge and Involve

He indulged in the richness of the cake.

What is Involve?

The word involve is a verb. It can be used when we want to speak about something as a necessary part or result. Here are some examples.

Most of the married female participants were reluctant to apply as it involved a lot of risks.

In his briefing, the manager highlighted that the position involved a lot of conflict resolution.

She decided to apply for a job in an NGO mainly because it involved traveling.

The word involve can also be used to refer to cause to participate. Let us look at some examples.

Many people were involved in the campaign.

The committee decided to involve some villagers as well.

Involve can be used when we want to say that someone one very much interested in something.

I was deeply involved in the discussion.

The news involved all of us.

It can also be used to generate the idea that something was surrounded or wrapped.

The cottage was involved in the mist.

As you can see the word involve can be used to generate a myriad of meanings.

Involve: Individual gets the opportunity to participate.
