Difference Between Inside and Outside Sales

Inside vs Outside Sales

Salespersons are salespersons whether they sell at shops, close deals over the telephone, or pay a visit to client’s place to sell a product or service; this differentiation of inside sales and outside sales does not matter much to consumers. However, there are many differences for those in the sales field that will be talked about in this article.

Inside Sales

The sales that are generated at the premises of the producer or retailer are referred to as inside sales. Even telemarketers who close a deal sitting at the premises of his employer are conducting inside sales. If you are the sort of person happy sitting at an office for hours making calls and completing sales, inside sales may be better for you. You have a fixed place to sit, and you are not required to travel to have a meeting outside the office with clients. Inside an office, you have to work as a team collaborating with colleagues and have to endure politics that go on inside an office.

For a sale to take place, a salesperson in inside sales has a fixed location where customers come, and he has to sell a product or service. Otherwise, he has to make phone calls to complete sales. The only travel in inside sale is the drive to your office and back home. You work under a schedule and have fixed number of hours that you put in at your workplace. You meet customers at random, and he may show up at any time during office hours. Alternatively, you may make phone calls and try to sell products and services without having to face them.

Outside Sales

When you, as a salesperson, have to move out and go to customer’s place (residence or office), you are involved with outside sales. Outside sales require extensive travelling and are certainly very tiring. The salesperson does not have a fixed schedule but is rather dependent upon the convenience of the customer, as he has to make a prior appointment to see the customer. If you are the sort of person who is more comfortable working independently, outside sales may be perfect for you. You do not get the comfort of the office and are on your own on the road, trying hard to meet the deadlines. Outside sales job requires you to be at your best all the time, physically as well as mentally. Your appearance matters a lot in outside sales, and you can never go out dressed shabbily.
