Design

The lock and notification screen have been redesigned to support 3D touch. This is expected to expand the scope of the two options even further. Notifications are more interactive with the new iOS. Vital information can be viewed at a glance, and live updates enable users to send and receive messages without opening the app itself.

Messaging

Most of the changes on the messages have come in the visual form. There are emojis that are now three times the size of text messages. Quick Type predictive text will help in predicting the text that is to be typed. The emoji keyboard can be opened up partway, and the text with an emoji equivalent will turn into an emoji with just a tap.

Messages can be sent invisibly as scrambled text. The user on the other end will only need to swipe it in order to view the surprise message on iMessage. Now iMessages also supports images being sent on low quality and enable or disable read receipts for a person or group. Old emojis have been updated or changed.

Preinstalled Apps

Inability to remove preinstalled apps was a long-term complaint from iOS users. Apple has finally enabled this feature in this feature. The user’s data will be deleted, while the application is hidden within the device.

Applications

The phone app enables the user to have voice transcriptions directly on the app itself. Speech can be converted directly into text. Although it still lacks accuracy, it is a useful app to have.

Music

The Apple Music application received an update that included a visual redesign. You can now take live photos and listen to music simultaneously.

Siri

Siri is now able to support third party app. This will enable a large number of apps to take advantage of voice controlled commands. This approach makes Apple more accessible as with the Android apps.

Images

The new iOS supports RAW images. This will help Apple devices to capture high-resolution images when the need arises. The rear camera will only capture RAW images, and it will not support image stabilization either.

Home

This is a brand new app that comes with the new operating system. It will give the user total control of his smart home appliances. You will be able to see Home kit compatible devices when you open up the app. One special feature of this app is, it is not company dependent and works with almost all applications. It also supports 3D touch. The app also comes with a special feature known as Scenes that collects frequently used settings for appliance and makes use of it.

Quick Type

Quick Type is a clever feature that will suggest details like contacts when the sender requests for such information. Quick type now supports more than one language at a time, but its usefulness will be in question.

iOS keyboard

The sounds that represent the keyboard have seen a change. Especially space, return and backspace keys have different sounds when compared with the default keys. But the stock sounds are gone for good.

Unlocking

The “rest finger to unlock” has replaced the slide to unlock feature. This feature is found in the accessibility settings.

iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 plus come with iOS 10 pre-installed.

iOS 9 – Features and Specifications

The warmer color on the display is believed to give a better night’s sleep. The setup can be run manually, but the easiest way to take advantage of this feature is to set it from sunrise to sunset. Now fingerprint locks and passwords can be used to setup Note apps. This will be essential to lock up vital information when the need arises. You will be also able to lock certain pieces of information without locking up the whole phone with passcodes. The new update also supports multiple user accounts for education. Health and activity app interfaces also came with tweaks to their interfaces.

What is the difference between iOS 9 and iOS 10?

Design and Interface

iOS 10: The iOS 10 comes with a redesigned lock screen. The notification search page can be reached by swiping the left of the lock screen, and the notification center comes with enhancements. In the landscape orientation, the time and date have been shifted to the left. Battery charge information is also visible and is under time. This is replaced by the time after a moment.

The camera icon is at the middle bottom of the screen; you do not need to swipe the camera icon to open up the camera like before. Swiping from the right-hand edge of the screen will launch the camera.

iOS 9: The iOS 9 has the date and time justified centrally to the screen when in landscape orientation. The iOS 9 came with the slide to unlock option. A small camera icon sits at the bottom right of the screen; this will help in launching the camera application.

Live Updates

iOS 10: Notifications can be opened up, and the conversation or work can continue without the need for opening up the particular application.

iOS 9: The particular application will need to open in order to continue the work or conversation.

Raise to Wake

iOS 10: This feature requires an iPhone that is powered by an M9 co-processor. This means it will not work on all iPhones. It currently works on iPhone 6s, 6S plus and SE. Like with the Apple watch, the screen will light up and show off the lock screen when the iPhone is lifted. This is informative and interactive. You can also clear up all the notifications with one tap which is a small but convenient feature.

iOS 9: This feature was not present in the iOS 9.

Mapping Destinations

iOS 10: Now iOS is smart enough to suggest destinations that you are likely to visit at a given time  with the help of artificial intelligence. This smart assistance will be useful when you want to know how to reach a certain place. It will also remember the place where you parked.

iOS 9: Mapping did not include the above features.

Messages

iOS 10: Messages are now visually enhanced and come with animations and effects. There is a feature known as invisible ink that scrambles a message until the receiver has to swipe to reveal the real message which is hidden. Messages app is  being opened up for third party apps that may be followed up by additional features in the future.

Home

iOS 10: The new iOS 10 is able to take full control of Homekit enabled smart home appliances. This app is universal and will work with many appliances. Scenes groups settings of multiple appliances onto a single button.

iOS 9: iOS 9 did not come with this feature.

Preinstalled Apps

iOS 10: the new iOS gives the user the ability to remove preinstalled apps made by Apple. Although the app will be removed, it will not be totally deleted. Only the user data is deleted.

iOS 9: iOS 9 does not allow the user to remove pre-installed apps.

Predictive Typing

iOS 10: The iOS 10 operating system is powered by Quick Type, a predictive typing system that will predict probable words when typing up a message. This feature is getting cleverer and smarter. It will suggest answers to the questions sent as text, like emails and contact information when the receiver from the other end request for it.

iOS 9: iOS 9 did not come with this feature.

Third Party Support

iOS 10: Third party application support is available for applications of Apple. This includes Siri and iMessage app.

iOS 9: iOS 9 had less third party support.
