Apple iPhone 4 and BlackBerry Torch 9800 are from two popular brands for phones. Both Apple and Research in Motion (RIM) have introduced two amazing smart phones to the market in year 2010.
RIM introduced BlackBerry Torch 9800, offering a capacitive touch screen, upgraded Operating System (Blackberry OS 6) and a whole lot of other features. The Apple’s stunning iPhone4 with loads of applications and improved OS (iOS 4.2.1) is already in the market.
The sleek Apple iPhones created a revolution in the mobile phone industry. It changed the way people used to think about mobile phones. It has added many entertainment features to its applications.
Blackberry is designed basically for corporate people, especially made to make communication easier.
The BlackBerry Torch 9800 is the latest model in the Blackberry devices line up. It has a sliding multi-touch screen display with a physical QWERTY keyboard and powered by BlackBerry’s latest operating system, OS 6. The new design has not much comprised on its classic Blackberry profile, but comes with an excellent touch screen and featuring far greater social network integration, a powerful search feature, and a WebKit browser comparable to Apples Safari. It has a special BBM messenger that uses a variety of options and many other facilities for mailing.
Both phones are targeting different market segment. So it is quite difficult to compare both phones. Which one you want to choose depends on your needs and what you are looking for in a phone.
Display:
The iPhone4 has a 3.5-inch capacitive widescreen multi-touch ‘Retina’ display with higher resolution (640×960 pixels). BlackBerry Torch 9800’s 3.2-inch, 360×480 pixels capacitive multi-touch display is also crisp, bright and attractive.
The iPhone4 offers bigger screen with better contrast ratio and has a higher resolution than the Torch 9800 (some opines that the pixels are more than the human eye can actually see).Also Apple has more practice with capacitive screens than BlackBerry.
Apple claims that the Retina display is the “sharpest, most vibrant, highest-resolution phone screen ever, with four times the pixel count of previous iPhone models.” It claims that the pixel density is so high that the human eye is unable to distinguish individual pixels and makes text amazingly crisp and images stunningly sharp.
The Touch 9800’s display is also flawless.
It may be more enjoyable to watch movies on iPhone4.
Processor:
The iPhone4 has 1 Ghz processor and the Torch 9800 comes with a 624 MHz processor. Though BlackBerry Torch 9800 comes with a 624MHz processor only, its memory management is good providing better multi tasking capability.
Camera:
Both iPhone4 and Torch 9800 have 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash.
The iPhone4 comes with a 5x digital zoom function and has got a front-facing secondary video camera for video calling. The Torch 9800 has 2x digital zoom and lacks HD video recording and front-facing camera for video calling.
For video recording and play back, the iPhone4 camera supports HD quality, whereas the Torch 9800 camera only records and play in SD (VGA resolution).
Keyboard
Blackberry has a full QWERTY keyboard in addition to the touch screen. Compared to virtual keyboard, QWERTY keyboard helps fast and accurate typing. Touch screen keyboards are great once you’ve got used to them.
Applications
Balckberry offers more applications for business users, but Apple outshines with its App store offering. iPhone 4 users have access to App Store and can download for free or at a small cost.
