Iron vs Aluminum
Iron and Aluminum are two metals that exhibit different properties and hence show differences between them in terms of their appearance, weight, color and the like.
One of the main differences between iron and aluminum is that iron is heavier than aluminum. Aluminum is categorized as a normal metal whereas iron is categorized as a transition metal.
As a matter of fact iron is cheaper than aluminum. Aluminum is also a better conductor of electricity and is also malleable and ductile when compared to iron. It is true that iron is not easily malleable and ductile.
Another important difference between their properties is that iron is highly magnetic whereas aluminum is not magnetic in nature. These two metals differ in terms of their atomic weight too. Aluminum is said to have a standard atomic weight of 26.981 g mol. On the other hand iron is supposed to have standard atomic weight of 55.845 g mol.
The metals iron and aluminum differ in their atomic number too. Aluminum has an atomic number of 13 whereas iron is characterized by an atomic number of 26. Geologically it is interesting to note that iron is the most common element found in the planet Earth with the most part of the outer and inner core of the planet formed of iron.
On the other hand aluminum is not one of the most common elements found in the outer core and the inner core of the planet Earth. In fact it can be said that it is the most abundant metal available in the Earth’s crust. This is the big difference between the availability of the two metals in the core and the crust of the planet Earth.
The melting points of the two metals differ too. Iron has a melting point of 1535 degree Celsius. On the other hand aluminum has a melting point of 660.37 degree Celsius. The two metals differ in their boiling points too. Iron has the boiling point of 2750 degree Celsius whereas aluminum has a boiling point of 2467 degree Celsius. Aluminum stands sixth in terms of ductile metals.
