Juicer vs Blender

Juicers and blenders are appliances that are seen commonly in kitchens around the world. The two appliances confuse many homeowners as they do not know which of the two to purchase for their purpose. There are also people who want to know if there are significant differences between the two important appliances that warrant their separate purchase. Juicer and blender can perform some tasks that are similar. However, there are many differences between a juicer and a blender that will be highlighted in this article.

Blender

A blender is an appliance that is designed to chop everything that is thrown inside and make a smooth liquid. It creates tiny pieces of vegetables and fruits and finally converts these pieces into a smoothie. Blenders have rotating blades that move very quickly to chop the products not leaving anything behind, even the seeds, skin, and the pith. There are hand blenders that need to be immersed in the container and operated to produce a blend of fruits or vegetables though there are also blenders that contain a motor at the base and a jar at the top which has the fast moving blades inside. Blenders crush ice, make mixture, smoothies, make purees, and powder solids like herbs and spices, and so on.

Juicer

Juicer is an appliance that is used to make juices of fruits and vegetables through a process that separates pulp and seeds. This is why a juicer is preferred over other appliances as it provides a lot of nutrition from vegetables and fruits. Before the advent of modern electric juicers, there were reamers that required pressing the fruit over a conical centre that has ridges. Manual pressing and rotation of the conical centre separates seeds and pulp while the juice produced goes inside a container below the conical centre. Later electrically operated reamers made their way into the markets that required the user just to press the fruit over the conical centre. The latest in the series of electric juicers are centrifugal juicers that first cut the fruit into pieces and then spin the pieces to produce their juice.

Juicer vs Blender

• Blender chops the products that are thrown in and produces a liquid with the help of fast moving blades. It leaves nothing behind mixing even the seeds, pulp and the pith. On the other hand, a juicer is designed to cut pieces and extract juice separating the skin and seeds.

• Blenders have much more powerful motor than juicers.

• Blenders can be hand held or those with containers.

• Blenders can crush ice and make smoothies, whereas juicers are ideal for extracting juices from citrus fruits.

• Placing whole tomatoes into a juicer would produce tomato juice without seeds and skin, whereas throwing the same into a blender would produce a liquid of tomatoes that has crushed seeds and skin also.

• Blender blends everything that is thrown in a blender and does not separate fiber and skin like a juicer.
