LCD vs LED Monitors
LCD monitor and LED monitor are the popular displays these days. Whether it was a computer monitor or a TV, there was a time when cathode ray tube ruled supreme and it was common to see CRT monitors everywhere. Display is important as we continue to stare the screens for hours whether watching TV or working on a computer. With the advent of newer technologies such as LCD, LED, and Plasma, people are confused about the difference between LCD and LED monitor as to which is better for them. LCD
LCD is the abbreviation of Liquid Crystal display. There are two layers of glass in this technology that are joined together with liquid crystals in between. These crystals help pass or block the light. However, crystals do not produce any light and it comes through fluorescent lamps (CCFL) situated at the back of the screen.
LED
The technology in LED TV’s is much the same with the difference being the source of light at the back of the screen. Whereas it is CCFL in the case of LCD, there is Light emitting Diodes (LED’s) in the case of LED TV’s.
The lighting at the back of the screen decides the quality of display thus you must enquire about it before buying your next TV or monitor. There are 3 major types of backlighting techniques known as RGB dynamic LED, Edge LED, and Full Array LED.

Difference between LCD monitor and LED monitor • LED’s in general tend to have better contrast ratios than LCD’s. This is important for programs with graphic presentations and also for gaming • LED’s are environment friendly as there is no mercury used during their manufacture. On the other hand LCD TV’s require mercury for their production. • LED’s are more energy efficient than LCD’s, and in general consume 30% less power than LCD’s. • Watching LCD monitor for long can cause stress on your eyes. LED’s on the other hand, are softer on eyes. • LED TV’s are a bit pricier than LCD. In general, there is a 20% price difference between the two. • LED TV’s have a longer lifespan (100000 hours) than LCD TV’s (60000 hours). |
