LG Prada vs iPhone 4S | Speed, Performance and Features Reviewed | Full Specs Compared
There are several reasons behind a vendor coming up with a new product design. The obvious reason is after a market research and requirement gathering, designing a new product to fit the general requirements. The less obvious one and what we are going to talk about today is the peer induced design. To be precise, this isn’t really an induction, but a promotion. Prada has joined hands with LG to release another LG Prada fashion handset to the market. Prada has been a fashion brand for a long time. It is originally from Milano, Italy and their success started with been appointed as the official supplier for the Italian Royal Household in the early 1900s. Since then, they have gradually grown in to a superior fashion brand that reaches the whole world. In a way, we are content about their approach in promoting their brand through a smartphone, although we have seen it before. What makes their attempt unique is that, apart from the Prada cover, the phone actually comes with decent performance, unlike other such fashion brands. We will talk about that in detail when we review the LG Prada individually.
On the other side of the line, we have a well renowned competitor. Apple iPhone 4S is considered as one of the best smartphones out there today, and there are a lot of reviews to back up that opinion. However, that is not why we picked Apple iPhone 4S, it’s because this specific smartphone gives an accurate benchmark. Thus, we can compare LG Prada against it and come to a conclusion on how better or worse it is with respect to Apple iPhone 4S. Let us begin by illuminating you on what LG Prada got to play against the smartphone giant, and then about Apple iPhone 4S and finally we will move into the comparison.
As we have mentioned, LG Prada is actually a decent usable fashion smartphone. It is powered by a 1GHz Cortex A9 dual core processor on top of TI OMAP 4430 chipset with PowerVR SGX540 GPU. It also has 1GB of RAM and runs on Android OS v2.3 Gingerbread. This is the same combination used by Apple iPhone 4S as well, and it can promise a good performance boost if you give this handset a chance. It feels great in your hand and has Saffiano Décor at the back plate with curved edges and a premium expensive look. Of course, that was to be expected since this is a fashion icon. We located the micro USB port and the covering mechanism was different. Normally you can bring it off while, in Prada, you can slide it aside to make way to the micro USB adapter. It has a length of 127.5mm and a width of 69mm while it is 8.5mm thick. Prada is somewhat bulky with a weight of 138g but not so much that you can’t hold it.
LG Prada has 4.3 inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen featuring a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels at a pixel density of 217ppi. The screen has good viewing angle although we would have appreciated if LG improved the pixel density. The fashion icon has 8GB of internal storage with the option to expand storage using microSD card. It defines connectivity through HSDPA, and it also has Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n for continuous connectivity. The user can enjoy sharing his internet connection with the ability to act as a Wi-Fi hotspot, and the DLNA connectivity guarantees that you can stream rich media content wirelessly to your big screen. Being a fashion phone, LG has included 8MP camera with autofocus and LED flash to capture the moment. It can also record 1080p HD videos @ 30 frames per second, and the 1.3MP front facing camera is integral if you want to make conference calls. LG Prada has 1540mAh battery, and claims a talk time of 4 hours and 20 minutes, which I doubt will be enough for a fashion icon.
Apple iPhone 4S
Apple iPhone 4S has the same look and feel of iPhone 4 and comes in both black and white. The stainless steel built gives it an elegant and expensive style which appeals to the users. It also is almost the same size as iPhone 4 but slightly heavier weighing 140g. It features the generic Retina display, which Apple is extremely proud of. It comes with a 3.5 inches LED-backlit IPS TFT Capacitive touchscreen with 16M colors and scores the highest resolution as per Apple, which is 640 x 960 pixels. The pixel density of 330ppi is extremely high that Apple claims that the human eye is unable to distinguish individual pixels. This obviously results in crisp text and stunning images.
iPhone 4S comes with 1GHz dual core ARM Cortex-A9 processor with PowerVR SGX543MP2 GPU in Apple A5 chipset and 512MB RAM. Apple claims this delivers two times more power and seven times better graphics. It is also highly energy efficient, which enables Apple to boast an outstanding battery life. iPhone 4S comes in 3 storage options; 16/32/64GB without the option of expanding the storage with a microSD card. It utilizes the infrastructure provided by carriers to stay in touch at all times with HSDPA at 14.4Mbps and HSUPA at 5.8Mbps. In terms of camera, iPhone 4S has an improved camera of 8MP that can record 1080p HD videos @ 30 frames per second. It has a LED flash and touch to focus function along with Geo-tagging with A-GPS. The front VGA camera enables the iPhone 4S to make use of its application Facetime, which is a video calling application.
While iPhone 4S is graced with generic iOS applications, it comes with Siri, the most advanced digital personal assistant up to date. Now the iPhone 4S user can use voice to operate the phone, and Siri understands natural language. It also understands what the user meant; that is Siri is a context aware application. It has its own personality, tightly coupled with the iCloud infrastructure. It can do basic tasks like setting up an alarm or reminder for you, sending a text or email, schedule meetings, follow your stock, make a phone call etc. It can also perform complex tasks like finding information for a natural language query, getting directions, and answering your random questions.
Apple is best known for its unbeatable battery life; thus, it would be normal to expect it to have a fabulous battery life. With the Li-Pro 1432mAh battery it has, iPhone 4S promises a talk time of 14h in 2G and 8h in 3G. Recently the users have been making complaints about the battery life and Apple has announced that it’s working on a fix for that, while their update for iOS5 has partially solved the problem. We can stay tuned for updates and expect the Technological Innovator to come up with a fix for the problem at hand soon.

I have to tell you that there won’t be any conclusion made so as to affect your investment decision in this discussion, because LG Prada actually addresses a different niche market. Nonetheless, we’ll objectively compare the handsets and will point out the differences. LG Prada and Apple iPhone 4S both has the same amount of processing power and ideally since Prada has more RAM, the operation should be smoother in that. But we can’t guarantee that it would be the case because of the OS restrictions. While Android is the best OS that matches Apple iOS5, it still isn’t built targeting a single device. It is rather a generic OS and thus may not top the benchmark scores set by Apple iPhone 4S in this case. That is not to tell you that it will have a sluggish performance; it certainly won’t. But in terms of benchmark scores, both would fall in the same range. However, Apple has introduced the perfect virtual assistant Siri in iPhone 4S, and there still isn’t a virtual assistant for Android who can beat Siri. So that might be of interest to you. We are rather satisfied with the design of the LG Prada, and Apple iPhone 4S is always well designed. They have the same network connectivity and the same optics, as well. One thing that differentiates Prada and iPhone 4S is the display panel and resolution. While the display panel is great in both models, iPhone 4S features a better resolution and better pixel density resulting clearer and crisper image and texts. As an addition, LG has also included Near Field Communication support in Prada which might be pretty useful in replacing your wallet with Google Wallet. In terms of outlook, LG Prada is bit bulky due to the large screen, but it’s not so bad. Other than that, these two smartphones look exactly the same, and the investment decision will depend on whether you want a fashion icon in your pocket or not. I’ll make it even easier, both of them are priced along the same line, so there won’t be any economic advantage in your purchase, but then, one doesn’t expect much economic advantage in purchasing fashion icons anyways.
