Difference Between Manicure and Pedicure

Manicure vs Pedicure

The difference between manicure and pedicure relies on the body part that receives beauty treatment. The terms manicure and pedicure are so commonplace that nearly all ladies know about them. This is because these are procedures that are undertaken when ladies go to beauty parlors to make themselves look and feel more beautiful and confident. Even a little girl knows about these procedures as she follows her mother to a beauty parlor or sees her mother perform these procedures at home. However, there are differences between manicure and pedicure despite being grooming techniques used by ladies predominantly. This article highlights these differences.

It is a fact that manicure and pedicure are beauty treatments that are meant to provide relaxation to customers who come to beauty salons, but they are meant for different body parts.

What is Manicure?

Manicure is meant for relaxation and beautification of hands.Yes, as you must have thought, in manicure, hand nails are cut and groomed. In manicure, hands are soaked, buffing and shaping of nails is done, cuticles are pushed back and removed, and rough skin is removed from hands. Finally, a massage is given to the hands in manicure. Hand nails are even polished in manicure.

What is Pedicure?

Pedicure is the term used for a process of similar nature to a manicure, but this is applied to the feet. So, that means, in a pedicure, it is the turn of the toenails to get a royal treatment. The toenails are groomed and cut just like the hand nails are treated in a manicure. The difference, if any, lies in the way the back of the feet is scrubbed to remove the dead skin cells. Otherwise, in a pedicure, the feet are soaked, buffing and shaping of nails are done, cuticles are pushed back and removed, and the rough skins are removed from the feet just as in a manicure. Finally, a massage is given to the feet in a pedicure. Even the toe nails are polished in a pedicure.

In a pedicure especially, the treatment focuses on cleaning ingrown nails, hanging nails and brittle nails that are a problem to anyone.

In fact, the very first act of dipping hands and feet in warm water makes them soft, and all later functions become quite easy to perform. After an individual has taken a manicure and a pedicure, the texture of his or her hands and feet gets improved and the overall look of hands and feet is enhanced. You may have heard people talking about these processes by using the name ‘mani-pedi.’ That is short for manicure and pedicure.

As you can see, both manicure and pedicure are beauty treatments. The specialty of each treatment is that they are for a specific body part: manicure for hands and pedicure for feet. However, when you are doing either treatment make sure that you use lotions or oils that are not too chemical. Otherwise, you skin will look brittle after the treatment, and that is not good for health as well. Also, especially, make sure that the person who is performing your manicure or pedicure is using clean tools. If not, you may end up getting an infection from a previous customer. If done properly, both manicure and pedicure can improve the appearance of your feet and hands. At the same time, they will make you feel a lot relaxed.
