MI5 vs MI6

In today’s fast developing world, every country has its armed forces and intelligence forces ready to react as per the requirement of that country. MI5 is the military intelligence section 5 of UK and it is a part of Secret Intelligence Service (SIS) or mi6. Intelligence forces are very necessary for countries because they basically decide the do and don’ts of that country. Mi5 and Mi6 decide what has the military to do and what it has not to do. Basically MI5 and MI6 are parts of Secret Intelligence Service, which has a job to provide British government with foreign intelligence.

MI5

MI stands for Military Intelligence and 5 relates to which section is this Military intelligence, so mi5 is military intelligence section 5 of UK. In this intelligence section the military send its agents in different countries to have a good look of the country’s political, social and economical situation and then the agent give all the news of that relevant country to there officer in the headquarters. In this way these intelligence sections remain aware of their enemy countries as well as neighbor countries. The force of this intelligence is highly qualified and when they are sent as an agent in other countries they live life as simple men so that no one can detect them.

MI6

United Kingdom’s commonly known Secret Intelligence Service is mi6. Mi6 service is as old as Second World War but it was well but it was not officially acknowledged in public until 1994. The basic theme of mi6 is to provide British government with foreign intelligence. It includes many sections in it and many different types of foreign intelligence forces as well. The history of mi6 is very old and the first officer of this intelligence force was Captain Sir George Mansfield Smith-Cumming. After the death of Smith-Cumming in 1923, Admiral Sir Hugh “Quex” Sinclair took his place and he had a bright vision for the future of this agency. The modern mi6 is basically because of the efforts of Sinclair.

Difference between MI5 and MI6

It can be observed from the illustration above that the main difference between mi5 and mi6 is that mi6 is the security intelligence service which has to provide UK with foreign intelligence whereas mi5 is an intelligence agency which performs under mi6. Mi6 provides UK with the foreign intelligence where as mi5 helps them to implement upon the goals and objectives. A view of many people is that mi5 deals with threats within UK whereas mi6 deals with threats outside UK.

Conclusion

Both MI5 and MI6 are military intelligence agencies but slight difference in their goals and objectives that distinguish them from each other. The people working in these agencies are highly qualified and trained because they have to find out internal matters of different countries. To be a part of these agencies is not easy because they have set some rules and test which a person has to pass before the entrance in these agencies.
