Muppets vs Sesame Street

If you are a parent of a preschooler, you must be aware of The Sesame Street that happens to be a craze among small kids. It is actually a TV program meant for small children, and it makes use of puppet characters designed by Jim Henson, real actors, and animations to educated kids in a fun way. Those who have not seen the TV series or do not have small kids are probably not aware of the difference between puppets used in many kid movies and programs and the ones used in The Sesame Street. This article takes an overview of the program, and the reason why puppets used in the program are called as Muppets.

The Sesame Street

Sesame Street is the name of a children TV series created for small kids by Joan Ganz Cooney. The program makes frequent use of combinations of puppets (or Muppets created by Jim Henson), short films, real human beings, humor, and culture to tell kids about things and facts in a fun filled manner. Ever since the program was conceived and started to be telecast on TV, there have been changes in the format and content but the basic motive remains the same, and that is to educate small kids through puppets that are today household names. 40 years down the timeline, the show is as popular as ever, having won more Grammys and Baftas than any real person.

Muppets

When Jim Henson created puppets in the shape of stuffed toys way back in 1954, little did the world know that these puppets would one day rule small kids mind and help in teaching them concepts and facts in a fun filled manner through a TV series. Jim added many characters to the original few, and always emphasized that these characters called Muppets were only a made up word and meant nothing. The copyrights of all the characters shown on the TV series ‘The Sesame Street’ remain with Sesame Workshop, though, the company paid royalty from the earnings to The Jim Henson Company. Rests of the characters made by Jim were purchased by Walt Disney in 2004. The most famous Muppets in history have been Big Bird, Elmo, Miss Piggy, Robin the Frog, Sam the Eagle, and so on.
