Nike vs Adidas

Nike and Adidas are two of the most popular sports equipment companies in the world. Both of their popularity has become so immense that they are literally household names. They pretty much have the same target: people who love sports.

Nike

Nike is very well known to today’s generation because of their countless celebrity sponsorships but of course, their notoriety does not end there. Their main target markets are those people into basketball and running, what with their products mainly focused on these two endeavors. Their market used to be solely just domestic (the United States) but in recent years, they have expanded internationally. Their sponsorship on athletes is very prevalent.

Adidas

Adidas’ main markets are those people in the following sports: soccer and tennis. They used to only have Europe as their sole focus in terms of market but internationally, they are well known too. This is because of their soccer connection, labeled as the world’s sport. Some of the companies under Adidas are Reeboks and Rockport. I think Nike and Adidas are the most popular two sporting brands in the world currently. They both have a big market reach and make it difficult for other companies that are similar to capture some of the market for sporting products. I lived in London for many years and i know that Adidas is a bit more popular there than Nike. This may be because Football (Soccer) is the country’s most popular sport and that is what Adidas focuses a lot on. I currently live in America where Nike is definitely more popular. I think this is due to Basketball being really popular in the U.S and that the current fitness craze of people trying to get fit and start running are big factors in the success of Nike in the United States. I think if one company wants to out do the other they should focus on what the other specializes in but come up with a more innovative approach to make their new additional product focus more unique and appealing to markets that wouldn’t ordinarily chose them.
