Difference Between OCT Spectral and Time Domain

OCT Spectral vs Time Domain

OCT spectral is done in time domain as well as in frequency domain. Time domain analysis is a method that can be used to analyze OCT spectral images.

Time domain is a method applied in analyzing signals or data, OCT spectral, or optical coherence tomography spectral, is an advanced 3 dimensional imaging technique. Both of these techniques are very important in their relative fields. It is vital to have a proper understanding in these concepts in order to excel in their relative fields. In this article, we are going to discuss what time domain analysis and OCT spectral are, their definitions, their applications, the similarities between OCT spectral and time domain analysis, and finally the difference between OCT spectral and time domain analysis.

Time Domain

Time domain is a method used to analyze data. Vaguely speaking, time domain analysis is analyzing the data over a time period. Functions such as electronic signals, market behaviors, and biological systems are some of the functions that are analyzed using time domain analysis. For an electronic signal, the time domain analysis is mainly based on the voltage – time plot or the current – time plot. In a time domain analysis, the variable is always measured against time. There are several devices used to analyze data on a time domain basis. The cathode ray oscilloscope (CRO) is the most common device when analyzing electrical signals on a time domain. Other computer instrumentation, graphs, and raw numerical data can be used to analyze data on a time domain.

OCT Spectral Domain

OCT spectral, or optical coherence tomography spectral, is used to acquire and process optical signals. This method is capable of capturing images in three dimensions and very high resolutions. This uses the light at the near – infrared region to create the image using interference. Optical coherence tomography is done in both frequency domain and time domain basis. The frequency domain of OCT Spectral is also done in Fourier domain and time encoded frequency domain basis. OCT spectral is a method that is widely used in medical sciences (imaging of the retina of the eye), non-destructive testing techniques, thickness measurements, surface imaging, cross section imaging, surface roughness characterization and many more.

What is the difference between OCT Spectral and Time Domain?

• Time domain is an analysis method used in a vast range of fields such as engineering, physical sciences, biology, statistics, economics and even sociology. OCT spectral is an imaging method used in a limited amount of applications.
