Oracle Standard Edition (SE) vs Enterprise Edition (EE)
ORACLE database products are in five different editions. Each of these editions has a set of features related to performance, availability, scalability, and security areas. ORACLE EE contains all of those features and other editions have lesser features set. Here, are the available editions,
1. ORACLE database Standard Edition One
2. ORACLE database Standard Edition
3. ORACLE database Enterprise Edition
4. ORACLE database Express Edition
ORACLE introduces this edition as an entry-level database. It’s free for download, develop, deploy and distribute. It can be installed in any machine, which has any number of CPUs. But this edition uses only one CPU and maximum up to 1GB of memory. It can store data up to 4GB only.
5. ORACLE database Personal Edition
This edition supports for Windows platform, single user development and deployment only. It has almost all the features of Enterprise Editions except Real Application Cluster option.
Standard Edition
In this edition, there are two categories. As mentioned above, they are,
1. ORACLE database Standard Edition One (SE1)
This edition has all the facilities required for building a business critical application. SE1 delivers unprecedented ease of use, power, and performance for workgroup, department level, and Web applications from single server environments for small business to highly distributed branch environments.
2. ORACLE database Standard Edition (SE)
This edition provides all that are in Standard Edition 1, also support larger machines and cluster services with ORACLE real application cluster. Automatic Workload Management is also available in Standard Edition, which is not available in SE1.
Enterprise Edition
This edition contains all the ORACLE database features and it can be further enhanced by purchasing more options and packs. The benefits of this edition are,
1. Protects from server failure, site failure, human error, and reduces planned downtime
2. Secures data and enables compliance with unique row-level security, fine-grained auditing, transparent data encryption, and total recall of data.
3. High performance data warehousing, online analytic processing, and data mining.
4. Easily manages entire lifecycle of information for the largest of databases.

What is the difference between Oracle Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition? 1. Standard Edition can be run on single server or server cluster with a maximum of four CPUs. But in Enterprise Edition there are no CPU limitations. 2. High availability features like Flashback and Data guard are not available in SE. (Manual data guards can be created in SE). But those features are available in EE. 3. Virtual private database, fine grained auditing, ORACLE streams and advanced replication are available in EE. But they are not in SE. 4. Advanced security, Enterprise manager packs, data mining, label security, OLAP, partitioning, spatial and the programmer interfaces for database development (these are extra cost options) are available in EE.
