The main difference between queen bed and king bed is in the dimension of each bed type. Beds are sold in different sizes and styles too. Queen bed and king bed are two differently sized comfy beds preferred in the households. The king bed is wider than the queen bed. The king-sized beds are 76 inches in width and 80 inches in length. The queen beds for that matter are 60 inches in width and 80 inches in length. There is another interesting fact about queen bed and king bed when it comes to UK and Ireland. Though queen and king are two types of beds in USA, the queen bed is referred as king bed in UK and Ireland.

What is Queen Bed?

The queen bed is longer and wider than the double bed. The queen bed has been standardized at 80 x 60 inches. This means it is 203 x 152 centimeters.

Queen bed is normally preferred by the couples for the reason that they are spacious enough for two average adults to lie down comfortably. They fit very well in the master bedrooms or in the guest room of the household.

What is King Bed?

King bed has been standardized at 80 x 76 inches. That is 203 x 193 centimeters. King bed is extra comfy bed and will be suitable for bigger size people. For an average sized people it may be too large and occupy more space in the bedroom, leaving limited space for other furniture and also restrict the space for movement. So, king bed is suitable for extra large rooms.

The king beds itself have two different sizes, namely, the standard king and the California king bed. The standard king bed is sometimes called as the Eastern king bed, whereas the California king bed is called the Western king bed.

Another interesting thing about these sizes is that they are not internationally set standards, They vary from region to region. In United Kingdom and Ireland, what is called queen bed in other regions is referred to as king bed. The queen size beds are sold as king Bed there whereas they have another size called super king. So, in the United Kingdom, if you go and search for queen bed, you may not find what you are looking for. You have to ask for a king bed to get a queen bed there as both beds are the same in size yet the name king bed is used.
