Record of the Year vs Album of the Year

Record of the year and Album of the year are two awards given annually to deserving recording engineer, producer, and the artists that excels in their each of the specific music genre. These two terms might be confused with each other but they actually are distinctively different.

Record of the year

The record of the year award, as what its name signifies, is given to a single song that proves to be superior with other new songs released on the preceding year. Usually, this award is given to the recording engineer, record producer, song mixer, and the artist performing the song. This award sometimes confuses the people with song of the year award which is actually for the song composer.

Album of the year

Album of the year award is for the whole album in which the songs are included. Fro example, a single album contains 8-10 songs, that album where the songs are included is the one referred in the album of the year award. Commonly, this is given to the whole team members who made the album possible such as the album producer, record engineer, and the main artist of the album.

Difference between Record of the Year and Album of the Year

Distinctively, album of the year and record of the year awards are different because a record is a single, only one, specific song in its genre that exceeded the people’s expectations while album of the year is for the entire album, the whole album that almost all of the songs have gained the majority of the people’s interest. It’s not necessary though that when a song won for the record of the year it means that it’s going to when the album of the year also because there are times when an album consists of different songs and different singers.

These two awards, the Record of the year and Album of the year, are given by GRAMMY. GRAMMY is recognized by the US National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences to bestow credits to those people that show exceptional talents and skills in the music world.
